Now that EPA has dropped the requirement for the dreaded auto stop, is there a chance Toyota dealerships will disable this function? I have asked my sales rep but no response yet.

I would not count on them doing that.

I wonder if that works for the hybrid version? I hate the shudder you get when the engine restarts after stopping.

@bigcanoe I doubt that it will be deleted in the hybrid because it is an essential part of the operation of that drivetrain. My truck has a slight shudder when the engine restarts before it warms up, but after that it is essentially transparent.

Ya, same here with the hybrid. It seems to barely use the hybrid system if the Max meter is any indication. I must be using it wrong lol.

Wow, I had no idea Toyota added that too the Tacoma. Thank god my 24 TRD OR non hybrid doesn't have that.
Now on the other hand, my wife's 24 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness has the start stop feature, BUT at least Subaru allows you to shut it off. The catch is, you have to do it every time you go somewhere. I haven't figured out how to shut down the nannies on her car like I have on my Tacoma.

My understanding is that only certain Tacomas of different trims have it. The total number of trucks they ship with it is calculated to meet EPA requirements for emissions. Ultimately I don't think they'll allow it to be turned off. First note that it is controlled by Toyota corporate and dealers are locked out of that option. Beyond that I'm going to guess that Corporate will be concerned in the near future, like a couple of years, the EPA requirements will be reinstated and create a real mess for them so they're not going to want to change it temporarily. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.

The good news is that there are a couple of different aftermarket options that are plug and play to permanently disable it by 'tricking' he ECM into thinking that the turn off button is being pushed whenever you start the truck so I'd explore that. I personally don't like Start-Stop either so that's what I'd be looking at

Our 24 Limited has it, but if I barely brake enough, just to hold it back after stopping @ a light it will keep running, no matter how long I sit.👍🏻
