Dobinsons Coil Springs installed on Trailhunter

I have the dobinsons on my TRD OR with the stock shocks in the rear. The ride is good, love the springs. No need to change them unless you want additional down travel.

Which version of springs did you go with?

I didn’t see this question asked but with the added lift with these coil springs do you believe a 35/12.5 tires can be installed with having to do any additional modifications? I mean it looks that way to me

I am almost 100% certain you can but you will have to change the rim and get something with different offset then factory rim. I am thinking of doing the same down the road.

I will be putting on the 705 methods 285/70R17 8.5 with a +35 offset. I called method and this is what they recommended

I selected based on my weight so the 819s. My constant extra weight is about 400 lbs. With an additional 200 lbs after loading up everything I carry for over landing. I still have a 1.25 lift fully loaded which levels my truck out. I do

I know a couple of owners that have 34s on their OR Tacomas with the stock wheel and 1.5 lift. If you are going with method than you are doing what he is doing which is pretty cool...

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking I'll probably just stick with the 817s since a majority of my driving will be on a stock setup (other than camping and the occasional off-road adventure).

You will love it. I let my jeeper friend drive my truck off road (fully loaded) the other day and he was very impressed with how smooth the ride was compared to his jeep on 37s. Have fun!!! it is an awesome truck.

Im super noob at this stuff, but did you keep the stock shocks? Asking because im planning some extra weight with a smartcab etc and ive heard a bunch of folks complain about the trucks ability to add weight. Im too dumb with this stuff to know what to look at/questions to ask though

Hey no worries buddy, nobody knows everything - we all learn as we go. I just changed coils, no shocks. These are very good shocks and they have plenty of travel, so that doesn't need to be changed. We paid lots of money to have those shocks and all that suspension, only thing that sucks is soft coils. If you going to have lots of weight I highly recommend these coils.

Changed coils on Trailhunter. Got 2 inches on the front and 3 on the back. And I can't believe how drives much much better - huge improvement. Even my mechanic was shock how trucks feels much better with stiffer coils.

So my question is if that gives you 2 inches on a trail hunter is it still going to give you 2 inches on a regular TRD sport or would you actually need different springs?
Because the Trail hunter is taller then the regular Tacoma I believe 2”.

I am not 100% sure for sport. Trailhunter and sport have different shocks and so on, I would call Dobinsons and talk to them.

Seems they are a better option than a bump stops. I don’t load very heavy much but all my fishing gear and coolers add up on a beach run.

Honestly, just a ride quality improvement itself is worth it, let alone that you can have heavier load.
