Engine Dipstick Inaccurate reading’s

Just did an oil change at 1120 miles and cant seem to be able to read the dipstick , I know it calls for 5.9 qts , would it matter if I just dump the 6qts ?
Every time I take out the dipstick its different reading its to shinny and wont stick to the dipstick

any recommendations?
Would 6 qts hurt the motor or seals ? Due to to much pressure?

I hate the dipstick on this engine. It's the worst one I've ever tried to read, and that is counting my wife's Crosstrek with the stupid angled dipstick. But anyway...

I just dump a full 6qts in when I change the oil. You have to seriously overfill an engine to cause a problem and 0.1qts of oil is about 3.2oz.... or two shots of your favorite mezcal. I don't think the engine is going to care.

Just the taco up with 6 qts lol ? I was stressing for bit I usually just check the dipstick and add little by little until its at the high mark but man this dipstick should be more easy to read . Do they sell aftermarket dipsticks that are more easy to read ?

I have the same problem as you, I've heard of people sanding down the Low and High area to make it easier to read, have yet to see anybody here do it for the 4th gen though

+1 on finding dipstick very hard to read---- when I changed oil, thought it was just me, but evidently others are having problems seeing it as well.

I also find it hard to read. I sanded my dipstick a little bit and it maybe helped a little bit but nothing to get super excited about. The factory should have added hash marks. Maybe I'll add some with the dremel at some point.

Yeah I agree just use the 6 quarts. How much oil is in the crankcase does not determine the oil pressure. Engines have a pressure relief valve built into the block which limits the max oil pressure, not the oil level. The only problem is if the crankcase is so full that the big ends run in the oil and froth it up, which is not going to happen with 0.1 quart.

These dipsticks are super hard to read but not the first that I have dealt with. Sometimes they are a bit easier to read once the oil gets a little darker.

Agreed. The dipstick seems to always show as overfilled. I just ignore it and dump in the exact amount. Still in the back of my mind I'm feeling as if I'm overfilled, but makes me nuts that they cannot get the markings right on the dipsticks.

I sanded mine down a little. Maybe it's easier to read, hard to say. Thinking about spray painting it a flat black, but I don't know if the oil would dissolve the paint .

I don’t think that’s the best idea, nothing else inside your engine is painted, I think cleaning your dipstick after sanding is the only safe method anyone should try

I used scotch brite on mine. Makes my old eyes better

Does the 5.9 quarts include the oil left in the pan after draining? The drain outlet is above the actual bottom of the pan. This bothers me because so much dirty oil is left in the pan.

I have one of these that I attached a piece of tubing to. Amazing how much more dirty oil it removes.

I gave up on the dipstick. It always reads high for me. Same for the 3G dipstick. Both are impossible to read.
