Installed the OEM tonneau on my long bed. Love it, aside from some minor things.

I’m also not impressed with the drainage system. It is very lose where the plastic fitting attach to the underside of the tonneau cover. I also would like to find a fitting for the bed holes so I can shorten the drain hose and feel confident it will stay. Right now I have them as a long mess, but they have pulled out from the bed drain holes as the fitment is also quite loose. I use a OEM bed mat and it assists a bit in holding them in, thankfully.

Another thing I am just now noticing after a month of use. It seems like while completely closed, the end latches closest to the tailgate will sometimes come a half click/notch undone. I can’t pull up the tonneau, but I can push it down another half click. This hasn’t been a problem yet, and I haven’t had a chance to look at the rails, but it’s concerning. Does anyone else experience this?

I'm not sure if it's the same on the long bed, but it might be possible that your rail is not installed properly. I had an issue with the latches when I installed mine but it turned out I didn't have the clamps seated in the rail properly. It's subtle but makes all the difference. Other than that, the latches are adjustable. Just keep in mind that if the clamps aren't seated properly in the rails, the rail won't be stiff enough to latch properly regardless of any adjustments

Took a better look after work this evening. Fully unfolded and then folded back down the cover a few times. It seems like the cover favors the passenger side a bit. I can grab the closed cover with 2 hands while shut and latched to straighten it out and bring it more center. Knowing this, I can also be mindful when closing it. I’ll drive for a few days and see if it pulls back to the passenger side enough to make the retractable spring clip on the driver side come undone. If so, I think it’s just the 2 bolts with lock washer and clips on each side in the back to set it straighter.

I put the drain on the left side, no issues and/or leaks in the bed yet.
I have the slightest leak by the bulkhead, passenger side. It appears to be from the rails. My guess is the drain tubes can’t drain the water quickly enough or they froze.

anyone had similar issues and any recommendations on a fix??

So took a look and water definitely froze in the drain tubes. any one encountered this and come up with a solution??

Hey guys just wanted to let everyone know that the OEM Trifold Hard Tonneau Cover PT954-35240 fits nicely on the 2024 Tacoma.

If your dealer says it’s not on the catalog and they’re not sure if it will fit on the 2024, I’m here to let you guys know it does. Same thing happened to me and the parts guy didn’t want to order it for me at first but I assured him that I would take full responsibility if it didn’t fit which I knew it would because of the post that was made here with the Hawaii region getting them in and installing them.

After I placed the order, I got it the next day as they had it in stock in the next state over. As of now they don’t have the instruction manual but it’s pretty straight forward and I used the 2022+ Tundra installation instructions for reference. It’s very similar to the Bakflip MX4 and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same cover with Toyota branding. Hope this helps anyone!

I received a very similar one on Ebay for a total price of $319.93 per pic below. After owning it and using it for 6 months, it works very well. I have stood on it and it had very little "give" and it opens and closes nicely and with the tailgate that locks, it keeps things nicely secured.

EDIT: If this was for a long bed, I am not sure if the same company sells the long bed one.

Mines also like this, and I slid it all the way back towards the tailgate so I can still use my digital rear view, it moves a bit in the wind but I don’t know why else the rods would be there if you couldn’t transport while folded up
slid what all the way toward the tailgate? mine also does this but is ever so slightly blocking the rear camera. I’m trying to figure out what i need to adjust to get just a little more clearance

  • I just installed the OEM cover on my 6' OR and can confirm it is beautiful. Installation took me about 2 hours and was straight forward. I placed an online order with a local dealer and paid $1,140. All you need is a T30 bit, 1/2" socket and a screwdriver. Very easy to get done.

The Off Road has a 120V outlet on one side and DC jacks on the other and I was slightly concerned the relocated bed rails would block those access doors. I can report everything works as expected.

If you are going to install this yourself please allow me to offer a few observations:

  • The cargo rail screws have a fine thread. You re-use these to install the top rails of the cover. Be careful not to strip these. It is easy to cross-thread them.
  • The top rail of the assembly has a gasket the seals between that rail and the top of the bed. My gasket was not applied evenly at the factory but with a hair drier you could loosen the adhesive and reset the seal. My variance was minor and didn't see it until I was fully installed.
  • The instructions say to push the rails flush against the head of the bed before tightening. The rails will not be equal. I think the left rail is slightly more forward than the right. This ultimately does not matter.
  • The automatic tailgate works great.
  • You may need to adjust the struts that hold the cover in the fully upright position.
  • I could not get the drain hoses to advance into the factory holes in the bed. A step-bit resolved that problem. A countersink may have fixed it too. In short, the hole is too small.
  • I wonder if the load rating of the cargo rails is reduced but I have used the bed hooks for the most part.
The install is easy and I'm happy I went OEM and it really makes the truck look awesome. Good luck!

how are those arm struts adjustable?? i dont see any way to mess with them other than moving the entire rails or sliding the top

yes as far back without making the bolts sit sideways
