Looks OEM fire sure. Not sure if the JBL logo would bother me or not
I agree with the JBL logo. Not sure if it's a copy right issue. I was thinking of moving the old one over to the new. Not sure if it's the same fitment. One thing for sure, the OEM speaker screen and frame is welded in and the aftermarket is screwed in. It seems the welds are in the same position as the screws, so you might be able to cut the welds out and screw the speaker frame in.

This isn't for the 4G Tacoma, but it shows that the aftermarket can solve this problem. Of course KTJO didn't make a proper grab handle for the passenger side because they all came with one.

True, it's possible to add a handle anywhere to anything. But this company decided they don't want to.

Sounds like a business opportunity for you. 😎

I agree that the 4th Gen Taco could use real grab handles on both sides. I might add soft handles like others have done - that seems to be the least impactful and most cost effective solution.

Can I get more info on this? I have been looking for a fix for my GF's 2021 4runner. Do you have a link or something?

Full honesty, the driver handle is great!! I use it every single time I exit the truck; I’m just an average size guy but it makes egress much easier and prevents wear on the seat from sliding across it and out. It’s not awkward to use at all, and tbh the visual appeal inside the cabin having two matching A-pillars with handles, makes the truck feel more trucky. Out of all the accessories I’ve put on my truck, I’m most thankful for this one!! Wish I could get one of the updated quality versions with the matching color!! @carlimeki

I don’t understand why someone who has the ability doesn’t just eliminate the closed off portion of the existing handle. Doesn’t need to be bigger just open so you can pass your fingers through it. Same size shape etc but just make it open. Maybe I am missing something. Idk

If I understand correctly, the side curtain airbag is directly underneath that panel, so you have really limited options in what you can do.

Exactly, I am not saying change anything on the existing grip, just remove the plastic from one side through to the other and smooth it down. Shouldn’t affect the airbag operation at all if the existing one doesn’t affect it. Area where arrow is pointing. Inside. Sorry I used someone else’s picture

Ah, gotcha. Remove the inner material that is obstructing a true "handle". Yea, not sure if that would affect the airbag or not, doesn't look like it would.

The 3rd gen Tacoma had at least one true grab handle; is the reason the 4th gen had to fix something that wasn't broken because of the airbags running at least partially into the A-pillar?

I doubt it. I had a 3rd gen 2020 model trd off-road and I put an aftermarket grab handle on the driver’s side. I disconnected the battery before installing because the airbag was behind where I was installing and I didn’t want it going off in the process.
