Toyota TRD 3+2 lift causing safety errors.

I just installed the TRD 3+2 lift on my Tacoma. I drove ~40 miles to the dealership to get it aligned with no issues at all. When I showed up to pick it up once they finished I had a bunch of warning lights and a system malfunction pop-up on my screen (Cruise Control, Traction Control, Pre-Collision, etc.) Dealership claims no liability(as they only did a mechanical alignment) but I think it's odd I didn't have any issues before. Anyone installed a lift and have anything similar? I've double checked all connections and lines and nothing is pinched or cut. I asked the dealership about doing a TSS recalibration and they said that wasn't something they have needed to do for their 3" lifts. I'm not sure what to do besides pay the dealership a ton of money to diagnose.

UPDATE: Took it to a different shop to diagnose. System showed a low battery error that can most easily be described by the battery getting drained and then being jumped which in turn caused a bunch of system errors.

They came on within 30 seconds of leaving the dealership. Took it back for them to fix it and they couldn't without scheduling a new appointment.

So... your call on if you want to try a different dealer. That one seems subpar. TRD Lift Kit installation instructions (page 26) state:

Due to a change in the vehicle height, it is required to reconfigure the TSS system.

After calibration if the lights persist, I'd consider checking ABS sensors (but really scanning for the actual codes will help narrow it down).

Long story short, the electronics in any of these vehicles are calibrated for certain heights and angles. In order to see and measure the environment correctly, they have to be re-referenced to the new heights.

In another make, a car, yes. In a different forum, a member changed out their rims and tires for something aftermarket. In these examples, we try to stay +/- 3% of the factory size, because of the electronics, transmission gears, diff gearing, etc.

This Member swapped to a new set of rims/tires and drove like that for close to two months (IDK how many miles or drives). THEN the alarms started, similar to yours.

The forum discussed several ideas, but it kept coming back to the new wheels: they were close to 5% different in height from the originals.

He removed the aftermarkets and returned to factory. Within an hour of driving, all his alarms cleared.

There's a limit to any of these systems. Several vendors have calibration sequences, some involving driving in a certain manner over a period of time. For that car, it took that long for the computers to finally determine it couldn't operate correctly at the new height. Measurements taken weren't matching what the car had been programmed for.

I asked the dealership about doing a TSS recalibration and they said that wasn't something they have needed to do for their 3" lifts.

I'm concerned the dealer seemed to shrug off the requirement to re-reference sensors to the new heights. If anything, I'd think it'd be the first thing a dealer would suggest.

Maybe it's best to seek out another dealer, ask for the calibration to be done. IDK if the tech will test drive the truck afterwards, as part of that process.

If the dealer completes the work, does a test drive and the alarms are still there, you're left with two options:

- Leave to have them t-shoot. They might charge a diagnostic fee to determine the problem, then quote the cost to correct the problem

- Pay and sign for the truck and drive for a while, "a while" TBD by you, to see if the alarms clear

Doing the calibration does seem like the most obvious fix though.

With respect to the alignment, I would have expected the dealer to give you before and after measurements. If they did, great. If they did not, I'd return and see if they associated those with your invoice, so you can get a copy.

shouldn’t have anything to do with the lift. i’ll bet money they bumped one of the wiring harnesses or sensors loose. get under there and inspect them all.

i have 6” of lift and all the sensors in the front are all still good. 3” is nothing.

I installed the TRD lift on my 26 ORP with 33s in my driveway, took it to the dealer for alignment, and have no lights on whatsoever.
I know they didn’t change any values with techstream and they didn’t realign the cameras.
If you don’t have a code reader that connects to your phone id suggest getting one. Especially if you’re gonna work on your own stuff. I’d also try pulling the battery and letting it sit for a few minutes.

I’d say check the abs lines. Not saying your installation wasn’t wrong but you may have knocked something out on accident.

The toyota safety sense system needs recalibrating anytime you upsize tires, or lift the truck(tire size change isnt really important). It has simple parameter changes you can make for tire upsizing and overall lift height factoring in how much higher the lift is including the extra height from taller tires. If the truck is over a certain height it will not function correctly causing errors. If you have a 3" kit and are running taller tires and your overall height is 4" or greater the system cannot function and some parts of the safety sense suite need to be disabled. This could be why you are seeing errors
