Why is my wife’s TRD off Road MPG so bad? She’s sitting at 17.8 being a very safe driver and not having a heavy foot like I do… I haven’t done any modifications that could alter the mileage on it besides a very light roof rack and voodoo bars on the bed.

Perfectly normal. Go check out the MPG thread. Plenty are getting that or worse. There of course are a few hyper miler people that drive 45 on a two lane back road down wind that will be getting like 30 but most will be in the high teens. 17.7 avg for 22,000 miles.

Two biggest factors (IMO) are stop and go traffic and speed. I've seen various comments that fuel efficiency increases over the first few thousand miles but that was not my experience.

Roof rack and bed rack took the aerodynamics from bad to worse. Mines lifted, with 285’s, sliders and skids, averaging 20.5 mpg.

TRD Off Road non-hybrid. I average 17-19 on the highway in Normal drive mode at 70-75 mph. Eco mode I can get up to 22-24mpg at 65-70 mph. That's with a bed rack and 200 lbs in the bed full time. Perhaps you can change the drive mode to Eco as it will delay throttle input.

Stop and go traffic will ruin your average too. Being a fellow Floridian... it's inevitable.

Most of our drive to work and home is on highway, I have been driving her truck the past days experimenting with the ECO mode and I can tell it’s a lot more fuel efficient. It is just annoying because it is not what was advertised on the sticker….

6k on a 6MT Off-Road, averaging ~20.5mpg which I find acceptable given the capability of the truck. Still on stock tires though.
Most accessories so far have added weight, but some seem to offset the weight through reduced aero drag.
Tonneau cover slightly improved mpg, and despite the millercat steel skid plates adding weight, mpg remained the same.

Mine improved past 5000 miles but short trips, wind and high payload or speed drop it fast. My always careful urban/metro driving in eco mode and highway driving if not above 60 MPH return 18-25 MPG. Keeping up with fast freeway traffic or rush hour driving drop it fast. My bike rack hitch type drops the mileage if I don't have the Fast-Top in topper mode.

Crossbar roof rack cuts the milage with our car. Associates with past and current gen and other models with the overlander style roof racks have complained that they hit fuel economy.
