Looking through the lens of a calibrator, of which we have four on staff, we can see how the answer is calibration.

However, for us, the answer lies with customer choice. OEs give the driver various driving modes for this reason. Our device is just another choice.

A calibration is akin to setting the car stereo to a radio station that you think the vehicle owner will enjoy, then removing the knob. Yes, it may be the best radio station in its genre. But is it right for everyone?

"The driver shouldn't have to think about throttle settings, open an app, pair Bluetooth, or remember whether they're on Sport +4 or Sport +7. They should just press the factory drive mode button, drive the truck, and have it behave exactly the way it should."

The above philosophy flies in the face of customization. As enthusiasts, its what we do. We bolt roof racks on the truck not because Toyota didn't make a good truck with ample storage. We bolt them on because we want it to do things specific to our wants and needs.

At Banks, we sell flash tunes. We sell "piggyback" devices. Our philosophy is that the right products can often work well together. We believe Banks and talented calibrators like yourself can benefit from each other.

A tune and a PedalMonster can absolutely complement each other. The tune is what changes the actual engine and transmission calibration and produces the power gains. The PedalMonster does not add power, but it gives the owner more flexibility over how that power is requested through the pedal.

That adjustability can be useful when the same truck sees different types of driving. Someone may want a sharper response for normal street driving, then dial it back for crawling, towing, parking, or other situations where finer throttle control is preferable.

I currently have one customer using a PedalMonster in combination with my tune, and another who is about to do the same. I don’t see it as an either/or decision. For the right owner, the tune handles performance and drivability, while the PedalMonster adds another layer of driver-adjustable throttle control.

Any negative affects running both in the long run? also, can the cobb accessport still be used to keep an eye on my gauges or does it have to be removed completely to have the pedal monster plugged in?

Since I already tuned your truck, you’d probably want me to soften the throttle tables at low and part throttle. You can still use the AP, but you’d need an OBD splitter.

There are no negative effects of using both an ECM tune and PedalMonster. As explained in the original post, we recommend requesting that the tuner not alter the pedal position, or alter it very little. This will allow PedalMonster to have the greatest impact.

Regarding leaving the AccessPort installed, yes, it can remain plugged in. However, this could cause the AccessPort and PedalMonster to fight for ECM data. To prevent this, open the menu using the Banks mobile app. In Vehicle Selection, select NO OBD. This will disable PedalMonster's OBD connectivity and allow both Banks and COBB devices to coexist.

Another option is to add a Banks iDash. This will allow you to adjust PedalMonster on-the-fly, as well as monitor and log all parameters. It's quickly becoming the gauge of choice among 4th Gen owners and not surprisingly, tuners too.
