Just curious what people have done. I went in today and had both ENE and ANC turned off and I don’t know if I really notice a difference?? 🤷🏻

I took some back to back drives turning them off/on with a Carista. I didn't notice a lot of difference with the ANC, but the engine sounded a lot different with the ENE off. I personally like it more with the ENE on and I ended up turning both back on and leaving it that way.

I have no idea why one would turn off the Active Noise Cancelling. I prefer a quiet ride.
I'm thinking that quiet is an aid with a long drive. More support for the idea occurred when I've done same trips close to each other between the Tacoma and our car. Both have good seats and as the time builds I'm convinced the quiet is helpful for not being as fatigued.

Same here. I know it's fake but it sounds a lot more pleasant.

I’ve had similar discussions with others on this topic, and what many people don’t realize is that it’s all “modified” to some extent.

Take glass packs, for example—they’re designed to enhance the sound by simply muffling it less. In a way, traditional mufflers are suppressing a more natural sound, making it quieter.

Of course, some people prefer a louder exhaust note, while others enjoy a quieter ride. I say, to each their own. I certainly don’t criticize those who prefer a synthesized sound over a more natural one.

While I would prefer to hear amplified natural engine notes, I leave it on. I want to be able to hear an engine response to my inputs. I have logged many hours behind the wheel of everything from ATVs to M1000 HETs, I need to hear and feel what the tuck is doing, and so many systems already take away from our connection to the vehicle. Automatic transmissions, Electric Steering, Drive by wire. Now we insulate the cabin so well that we're losing the sound too. Don't get me started on Teslas with no actual connection to the steering gear. I know it's coming to other brands, but I still hate the idea.
On another note; BMW/Mini did a bunch of market research on this. The engine noise sells cars. They blind-tested a bunch of people in identical model Mini Coopers, just about everyone chose the one with fake engine noise. Most motorheads couldn't even tell it was fake. On the bright side, BMW Mini started putting in better amps and subs.
As far as the G4 Tacoma is concerned, it's a four-cylinder, I'll take its fake engine noise or no engine noise over the natural. It's a great truck for what it is, and an over-engineered luxury sport truck, it is not.

To me, the truck sounds like a ‘90s Honda Civic with the old “fart cannon” muffler and no resonator with ESE on.

One would turn off ANC if they upgrade the stereo. Because putting the ANC signal through an amplifier would blow out the speakers connected to the amp.

You need the $35 Carista OBD reader and spend $10 for their app. You can turn off the seat belt chime amongst other things.
You can also have your dealer change those settings, but I found it more convenient to get an OBD2 reader and do it myself.
