I've got a 5 hour road trip planned for 3 months from now and my wife thinks she's going to need Dramamine to get through the highway ride harshness. We did a 3 hour round trip recently and the truck does let you feel every crack, bump, expansion joint, change in road surface, etc. Are there any options to make a TRD Sport float down the highway better? Any TRD Sport owners with personal experience feedback on things they've done? I don't have a need for any additional lift, if that matters. I was reading about Bilstein 5100 shocks but some comments said they feel just like TRD Sport shocks.

I would assume any of the off-road oriented bypass shocks will have the softest ride. I.e. King, Dirt King, ect. Really anything that is adjustable. You can watch a ton of videos showing side by side comparisons or give the manufacturers a call directly and see what they say.

As a side note, make sure you're at the correct tire pressure. 30psi is what toyota recommends which is rather soft by other vehicle standards, but the trucks themselves ship at over 50psi so it's always possible the dealer forgot to lower it down. (Mine did)

IDK what your limits are, but on a previous Taco we replaced the OEM tires. A dealership had a tire sale, buy three get one free type sale. After talking to the service guys and the parts guy we bought a hardy passenger car tire that served our needs, was more comfortable, quiet and a little better mpg's at the time. FWIW we just took a 6.5K mile trip on ten ply's thru the mid-west. Audible books took my wife's mind off a lot of the other stuff..... :)

This may be more due to spring rates as opposed to just shocks. The reality is a Tacoma Sport is the harshest riding of all trim levels. Totally serious suggestion. Consider renting a car for the trip. Unfortunately I just don't think there is a cost effective way to make your truck ride "soft" on the road.

If you don't want to drop big bucks on as setup, there's the Eibach Stage 2 or 2R. Bilstein is also supposed to release the 6112s soon.

I keep my vehicles a long time so this isn't just get past one road trip. I'm looking for meaning changes. Yes it could be spring rates too, or instead of shocks. I'm looking to learn to try and minimize experimenting.

I haven't tried aftermarket suspension on a vehicle before. I understand higher performance suspension getting firmer in sports cars but I'm not clear on what sort of suspension change 'soaks up more bumps'.

High quality aftermarket suspension will absorb bumps better. Stiffer doesn't necessarily mean harsher.

Sport comes on 18" wheels if I remember correctly. Not cheap but move from 18" wheel to 17" for more sidewall, also Michelin Defender M/S 2 isn't much to look at, but ride quality is really great. And finally as others mentioned, tire pressure can make a difference.

17" would have more sidewall but the 18" has a tall sidewall. Comes with Michelin Primacy tires. Maybe Defender is softer?

Too bad we don’t have an option to delete comments. My 2025 TRD Sport had similar issues. It was tire pressure. I now run between 30-32, depending on the temperature. My truck left the dealer in the 36-38 range.
My OEM tires are 18” General Grabbers HTS, I’ve seen other Sports with Michelin tires.

Reduce air pressure in tires, but this has. handling/safety concerns.

going to a larger tire on 17s with a sl load rating

Replacing the shocks and springs from a trd off-road.

I run my rears at 35psi with the added constant weight of the GFC, fronts at 35 for long trips (better MPGs) but knock them down to 31 when in town. No complaints on ride quality I’m in a TH tho..Currently running OE wranglers, eyeing a Michelin 3 peak for my next set. Reviews are hwy ride quality is really good

My limited came stock with 18" wheels and Michelin Primacy tires. I'm not a fan of the Primacy line. I have run both the stock Primacy and Defender M/s 2 on my 2025 and the Defenders are leaps and bounds better tires. They were more quite, rode better and a better milage warranty, and I didn't slide in heavy rain like the stock Primacy tires (at 32psi). I am running a different setup now with AT tires, but on road trips I sometimes wish I still were running those Michelin Defenders.
I test drove a 2025 Sport Premium before buying my 2025 Limited and even though it was a Sport 4x4, I thought the 4th Gen Sport rode a lot better than either of my 3rd Gen 2017 Limited or my 2021 Limited.

How new is your Tacoma Sport? My 2024 was pretty bumpy to start but with about 10k on it now it seems to have softened a bit. It’s nothing like my old 4runner limited but I don’t mind the ride.
