Thanks, I'll check it out! Has anyone already tried this Amazon/Nonsense-name mat to see if it reduces the noise much and if it appears to be high quality? It has zero reviews as of now. Also, it claims to provide both sound and heat insulation, which makes sense, but is there any risk of excess heat underhood caused by the mat? I suppose not since Toyota installs their own mat on certain models.

I get a sound around 3500-4K rpms, right before it shifts when in 1st or 2nd gear. I think it sounds similar to yours, although I haven't heard it from the engine bay, only from inside the cab.

It sounds like its garbling, or like something is loose.

Yes, installed it two weeks ago. I would say the quality rivals OEM for a fraction of the cost. Cut down on clatter/injector noise as well as hood vibration. Easy to install, no tools needed. I am very happy with the purchase. Doubt there is any heat concern since there is an OEM equivalent on higher end models. In fact I think it will provide heat protection to the hood paint. Highly recommended.

Thanks for this post! I had my Tacoma for 9k miles now and always had this noise. It goes away/less noticable when there is more load and boost in third gear or so. No one had a video that showed this "knocking" noise but this sounds exactly like my engine.

With Direct Injected engines the injectors get real noisy. With my 2016 Chev V8 in a Jeep with a DI motor they are real noisy. Now that I am springing for a 25 Taco I expect the same. Bit like going back to the early diesels - one had to out up with the diesel pre-ignition sound. Does sound go away when you lift the throttle?

My last oil change I switched to 5W-30, engine is a lot quieter now. Yes I’m aware Toyota recommends only 0W-20

11:1 comp turbo engine is gonna make some noises. High compression turbo with vertical DI is pretty close to being a turbo diesel. The only gas engines closer to diesels are Mazdas Skyactiv, which are extremely efficient.

No reason to not run 91, it'll be quieter, less chance of knock, and you'll probably even get more power.

The increased knock protection is the big reason though.

Wish these trucks had 1GD-FTV but you guys would complain too much 🤣
