Anyone else rocking the manual transmission?
Had the truck for little over a month now and can't figure out for the life of me, why 1st gear shift doesn't engage sometimes (go into the shift slot) feels like there's something binding or blocking the engagement.
It's mainly happens during from a stand still start. Grinded a couple times from these incidents, which is upsetting..

Afterword I try the same scenario, and it works buttery smooth. Only thing i can think of is the gear not aligning correctly with the shift lever from rolling slightly? Or am I bad at manuals?
never had this happen before with other manual transmissions.
But other than that, great transmission (engine rev hang took some getting use to)

My transmission did something similar. I had to go into neutral again before it would smoothly engage 1st. After 4-5000 miles the issue went away. I think it’s part of the transmission getting broken in.

Good to know. Even after going back to neutral a few times, still wouldn't engage. I hope your right, only at about 2000 mile.

Just stick it back in neutral, take your foot off the clutch and then try again. If you are bound up try putting it in reverse / different gear for just a fraction of a sec, then back into 1st. Happens sometimes on my other car (that I learned stick on, the poor thing) when it is cold / has been sitting a bit.

I'll give it a go, thank you

FYI…

https://dot.report/bulletins/11007438

Some 2024 model year tacoma vehicles equipped with a rc60f manual transmission / transaxle may exhibit a condition where the vehicle is unable to shift into second, fourth, and/or sixth gear but is able to shift into all other gears. Further inspection shows signs of cracking from the floor shift control shift lever retainer sub-assembly housing. To address this condition, the manual transmission assembly needs to be replaced.

Here is a good thread regarding Tacoma manual transmission lubrication. Redline MT-90 seems to be a favorite.

Thank you for this info!
Haven't had any issues with the other gears, just 1st. I would assume/hope toyota had fixed these deficiencies with the transmission with the newer models rolling out. That being said, I'm going to talk with the dealership and double check for any manufacturer faults.

Will post results, if I remember lol

+1 @Sandeep1994

Maybe just a bad habit of mine, but if you come to a stop sign in second gear, you can pull in the clutch and feel the first gear synchros bind if you try to put it in first (typically too much speed). The shifter should slide in as you slow down, don’t try to force it. It seems to always pops in smooth around 6-8mph for me.

I've had that happen once or twice, roughly 4,500 mi on it now, and I let the clutch out to let things sync. I don't usually try for 1st unless at a stop.

I've had good luck with Redline MT90 over the years, but I've moved to AMSOIL as I buy from them for another need, so it's easier with their preferred member program.

Be 100% certain that you use a GL4 fluid, NOT a GL5 fluid.
This guy does a good job explaining why.

DO NOT USE REDLINE 75-90 GL5 in your transmission.

Never had the issue from a standstill but definitely experience it when on a slight roll. Usually have to hold it in place until it slips in gear. I have had 3rd gear lock out on me once bad before though, ended up in my grinding twice and ultimately needing to double clutch to get in. Never had an issue after that.

Great recommendation and video. I've been watching him for years but hadn't seen this one.
