I’ve read about it online and never thought it would’ve happened. But here I am, my 2024 TRD Sport 4x4 deemed a total loss by my insurance. I Got rear ended at a red light. Tow hitch got pushed up to the spare tire. Outer frame rails were pulled in slightly.

Repair shop can’t do hot work on the frame. Would need to order a new frame, which is too costly.

Goodbye ‘24 Sport, Hello ‘26 Off-road On a good note, I am looking forward to what the off-road trim offers.

I pass a "car in tow" occasionally, a slightly wreaked temp tagged Tacoma pulling/towing another slightly wreaked Tacoma on the way to Mexico, I guess. They are probably coming from the Copart auction yard near me.

Everyone involved was ok, insurance paid fairly.

after speaking with the insurance adjuster, the truck will be auctioned off. Someone will get a good deal and straighten the frame, get registered with a salvaged title and have a 4x4 beater.

Bad enough bumpers cost thousands to fix on today’s vehicles, now rear enders cause trucks to be written off.
I like my OR and most things on my Tacoma are an improvement, (big one being mileage, 🤣) but in many ways my 1998 K1500 Silverado was better.

I also wonder, is a Tacoma able to tow near its capacity without damaging its frame?

Sorry to hear about your accident...hope that you will be happy with your replacement Taco. I was rearended in my 2000 Dakota R/T last New Years day... didn't seem like much damage (bumper and tailgate) but shops around town didn't want to fix it and the insurance offer was low too low for a total. Good luck...my 2025 TRD OR was the R/T's replacement as well.

Sorry for your loss. If you plan to do a lot of 4x4ing, plan to modify the bumpers, lift, ect I recommend staying away from the OR trim with radar. I say this because it's a pain in the ### to get them lined up perfect enough not to make the dash look like a Christmas tree. Also there's a lot more bumper choices, food for thought 🤔

That sucks. I got rear ended at a stop light in my '87 Toyota pickup. Replaced the rear bumper and tailgate, drove it for several more years.

back in the 90s they would just pull that out and replace the bumper. now a days one dent, "OH that's totalled." Rates go up and we consumers lose.
