Two dealers wanted almost $600 to Calibrate the sensors

So I went another path that does not require calibration.

The ARB Bumper comes with all new sensors, all 4 the same part number

The stock bumper uses the same sensors in the center, but different at the ends

The Parking Assist feature is off because it does not recognize the new sensors or at least the two at the ends that are different part numbers at least that is my theory.

I took the bumper off and partially disassembled so I could swap the sensors with the stock ones in the stock locations.

Now everything works as it should. If there is a difference in the sensitivity or angle detection, I can’t tell the difference from the drivers seat

The bottom line is for these Rear ARB bumpers, if you use the set of new sensors, Calibration is required or it won’t work. If you use the stock sensors, then the systems all work fine.

There must be a way to register the sensors easily rather than do a full calibration testing angles etc. The next person to do this may figure that out or just use the originaal ones. Be nice to know though

Thanks, so you are confirming you have the same unused connector. At least I didnt miss anything in my install

I wonder what it is for?
So, I had my 5k service today at my local dealer, and I walked through the showroom and they had two Tacos, an SR5 and TRD. Looking underneath the back both had this same plug, as well as my TH. I asked the tech guy what's with the plug? All the Tacos have it. Without extensive research, which he was going to do, he said it's probably something to do with towing and a camera system.

That is what these forum communities are all about. I have benefited from others research as well.

Question to anyone who has installed the ARB rear bumper, do you gain any additional clearance (while acknowledging the hitch is the lowest point and that won't change)?
It doesn't look like too much of a difference just looking at the photos, so any info is appreciated.

And to anyone who has swapped, are you happy with it?

Thanks in advance

on the sides you don't get anymore clearance, you are alsso above the frame rails in stock vs with the ARB

In the center you see a sharper angle maybe giving a slight advantage to the ARB

But with the ARB hooks installed at the frame rail and the tow reciever the lowest point, there isnt a way to really get more clearance.

If you want clearance on the rear, go with bigger springsf

Its more about protection than clearance and I am still very happy with it.

Thanks, that's what I figured, but I had heard mentions of additional clearance and was curious in case the photos were deceiving me.

Anyone have the weight of the ARB bumper compared to the stock TRD OR bumper? I searched for 15 minutes or so and can't find any weights associated with the part numbers. Just curious, because, I have a RSI top and already get pretty saggy with a full load on camping trips.

Also, many thanks to @Romer for all the info on this mod.

from what I remember, it was close to all the parts removed. Thinking 80 pounds but could be wrong. I noticed no sag with the swap

When you took the bumper off again, did you manage to lift the treads without snapping the fastening cleats? Or had you not yet put the those on? Asking for a friend :)

I believe that connector is a termination point for the CAN Bus (Controller Area Network). There are several other connections around the truck that are the same. The only reason I recognize that connector is that I pulled the one on the driver kick panel out when I tuned my truck. This is the terminator that I removed for my other harness, and it fits in the connection at the rear of the truck that you have in that picture.

Love the bumper though. It's tougher than stock but not rough edged metal like some of them.

I think 1 of those snapped, but still went on securely

Thanks…while I know I snugged up the main anchoring bolts, I didn’t set them to torque spec. Idiot move by me. Now I have to (a) go ahead and remove the treads with the risk of snapping a cleat, or (b) not worry about it….

Wondering some opinions. Got the bumper together and ready to install on truck. I can either install my original sensors into the new bumper with the corner ones wrapped in matte black vinyl to match the bumper (my truck is blue, so would look weird if they were left as is, and I checked to see if they work after they're wrapped and they do).
Or... A local place can recalibrate the new sensors that come with the bumper for $475. Cheaper than the dealer.
What do you guys think? It does seem like the stick sensors work just fine in the new bumper from what people have said. But then again, I am installing the bumper myself so I am saving all that money and can spend some on the new sensor calibration.
