I hope everyone can learn from my drive in theater experience. I'm going to sound old, but back in the day you could listen to the radio all day with the truck off. We'll not with my non hybrid Tacoma.
First off, I realized on the way there that the truck shuts off the accessories after ten minutes.
So, (AI) found a workaround, when I parked the truck at the drive in, I put the gear selector in neutral, set the parking brake manually and pushed the start button to shut the truck off.
Awesome, I thought
, the truck shut down and the radio stayed on. At this point everything was working perfect.
Well 2 hours into a double feature movie the truck beeps and shut down. There I sat with an $$$$ vehicle with a dead battery, WTF TOYOTA
. There are so many nannies and safeguards on the truck, one would think that they would have put a feature that kept enough juice in the battery to start the truck.
SO MUCH FOR DATE NIGHT, LUCKILY I'M MARRIED, LOL
Thankfully, I carry a jumper box, and within minutes, I had the truck going again.
That being said there wasn't enough juice in the battery to watch the second movie without idling the truck, and idling the truck for more than10 minutes isn't recommend, Bummer
I've been pondering replacing the factory battery with one that has more amp hours, and adding a 2nd battery, connected to an inverter with a solar panel. Well not anymore! This has become a need now, not a want. I already have a 3000amp hour solar generator with a 500w solar panel. By adding another battery to the truck this will be cheap (not) insurance.
Hope this helps anyone that might wish to go to the drive in.
AI said there is another way to accomplish the same thing in the settings menu, ( non hybrid ), but I was unable to accomplish it that way. My question is, has anyone figured out how to do it that way. I appreciate the feedback.
Hope my embarrassment, will help someone.
