Wow. I just read every post on this thread and am so impressed with everybody. I'm meeting with Super Pacific next week and hoping to get an X1 camper on my TRD OR LB before TOO long. I'll do a very minimal camper build in the back, but was wondering what to do about rear suspension. This thread has helped SO much. The truck is pretty much bone stock at the moment, but I've got wheels (backorder) and tires coming by the end of the month along with some aluminum sliders (yeah, I know, but I don't really rock crawl and wanted to save the weight). Once I get the X1 on, I certainly know where to look for spring options and details. Thank you so much.

Out of curiosity, has anyone done a complete suspension overhaul with their campers? Meaning, shocks and springs with somewhat of a lift? The reason I ask is because I've done suspension lifts on all 6 of my Tacomas. So it's odd, to me at least, to think of replacing only the spring and not both spring and shock. I've had Old Man Emu, Bilstein and Icon (never again) on my trucks. With the options available at the moment, I'd lean towards King or Fox, but would want the Super Pacific on before making that call as I'm assuming I'd need to get a spring upgrade in the back? Sorry. Not sure how it all works. With nothing but canopies on my previous trucks, I'd just order the suspension and have my suspension guy put them on. Not going to be so easy this time around.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Thanks again for all the great info!

Well, I've been trying to get a set of 817's as a near term measure to increase load and minimize squat but nothing's set to hit North America until late June (so I'm being told by any NA distributors).

I've tried connecting with Dobinson's directly (Australia) but not having much luck there either. Anyone ordered from one of their retailers in Australia?

With that I've been looking at options and while I wasn't thinking of upgrading the suspension quite so soon, these have been recommended from a few shops as they are Taco tuned/designed and have a 3-stage lockout on the rear shock. Now, I've seen these on many Sprinter vans but know little about them for truck/offroad purposes.

Anyone running these or have thoughts on them as far as suspension upgrade (can serve as a lift up to 1.75" as well) or as an option for suspension lock out when running a heavier load?

Dan (OP) seems to have a solution for just about everything. I am in the same boat. Super Pacific should go on shortly and debating just doing the suspension all at once or getting beefier springs in the rear for now. Eagerly awaiting replies.

Have you looked at AllDogs springs? That's another option and I believe available.

Or if you don't need them right now, wait until late-June. I needed mine as I was virtually on my bumpstops.

I've not heard of Falcon but it could be a very nice product. It doesn't seem to me to be a solution for rear weight though. The shock provides dampening but won't provide any benefit in reducing squat in the rear. They're selling it as a "leveling system" but they're referring to lifting the front (with the revised springs) so the truck sits more level. Weight in the rear is still going to drop the rear. No shock will help that. Only new springs (or air bags, etc...) will fix the rear squat.

So, the Falcon might be great but there's a lot of competition in that space. To fix the rear sag I'd hold out for a good spring. Like Tacoyaki says, you might check out AllDogs, or Ironman 4x4 just finally released their springs and I would expect they would perform very similarly to the others. You might call them and have a conversation about your needs and what you're looking to accomplish and see what they say.

I'm running a full skid plate package from Talons Garage, 1/4" aluminum w/ribs. They claim only 71 lbs (32 kg) for the package and that's probably accurate. I'm also running the CBI Super Stock Covert front bumper (read my thread on that BEFORE purchasing) and a 12k Harbor Freight Apex winch. I thought with the bumper and winch I would need to replace the front springs but installing them didn't move the front end at all and I haven't noticed any adverse handling difference since installing everything. That said, I have no idea how much weight I'm carrying at this point but I'm sure it's a lot. Next time I go by a CAT scale I intend to weigh the truck. It's not going to be pretty.

Good question wrt the Olympics. I hiked out there the first of the year (Lower Dungeness River on the east side) and we were just getting into snow at ~3,000 feet (~900 meters), but a lot has happened since then and I'm certain the snow pack is much lower now. I live the opposite direction though (base of Stevens Pass) so I don't get across the Sound very often.
So you installed the Dobinsons front springs and they didn’t lift the front back up?

No. I've done nothing to the front end other than the Westcott Designs front spacer. My comment was that I expected the winch and bumper to compress the front but they really didn't change the front at all so I decided to leave well enough alone. That may change at some point but for now I'm leaving the stock springs in front. I only did the Dobinsons in the rear.

Have you come across anyone who put dobinsons in the front on a stock TRD offroad with bumper and winch? I’m just thinking I wanna run the 822’s because of my winch and bumper but not entirely sure but not afraid to be the first lol

I don't know about a TRD Offroad but I know a few Trailhunters have installed them. I see you pinged Pap in his thread. @JaidenA has also installed them on his.

I wouldn't hesitate to install either Dobinsons or All Dogs on the front of the Offroad. Check out this thread by @andrewleader for All Dogs on the front.

Awesome thank you so much! I’ll run these with the oem shocks until they wear out then.

Figured I should contribute my experience with Dobinson Springs. I have a 2025 TRD-OR that I'm building for a long trip to Alaska/Canada this summer. This included a bunch of stuff that added lots of weight. I called Dobinson and had a chat with one of their people. My estimated rear weight was going to be 1060#, and 160# on the front. Front is just the C4 bumper and a Warn winch. My goal was 1.5"-2" of lift front and rear.

Rear weight includes:
  1. Victory 4x4 bumper with 2 swing-outs.
  2. Victory 4x4 sliders.
  3. Five gallon gas can.
  4. My spare 285/70-17 tire/wheel.
  5. Thirteen gallons of water.
  6. A Dirtbox canopy-camper.
At their recommendation I installed C59-819V springs in the rear. With the truck fully loaded I have no lift, maybe even negative. For the front they recommended C59-820, but they are backordered. In the mean time I did install a 1/4" spacer (1/2" lift) in the front.

I really need to get this truck off the ground. I've made two shake-down runs in the Tacoma and I drag bad. For the rear I ordered C59-821V springs, and will install them shortly. I'm expecting the 1.5"-2" lift I originally wanted with the 821V springs.

I'm on OME-2721s on my truck. They are for a 200 series, but work fine. Maybe slightly harsh riding, but here's how it sits with most of those parts. There's also a half slide, fridge, and tools in the bed in this photo. I haven't mounted a tent and done a full gear load out yet, but I assume they will ride perfect then. Front is Wescott spacers.

I have the 821s in the back and I have a similar static load (~1100lbs). I need to raise the front to have less rake and have been going back and forth between the All Dogs and Dobinson. I won't be able to do anything till late summer or early fall, but I'll be leveling it out before the end of the year.

I have the C59-821V in the garage ready for install. I just need to coordinate with a buddy to use his flat driveway.
Let me know how they ride. The only thing I'd like is a little softer spring rate, but I don't want to be dragging the hitch on everything either.
