I was planning to get my truck tuned next week. If it is coming soon, should I hold off until the update is pushed to the retailers?
The file may be ready then. I'll likely be able to provide more information on the release date for the update next week. I'll report back when I've talked to the rest of the staff.

Hey Justin,
I’ve got an appointment this Saturday for an OTT tune. Would you recommend holding off until the update is released, or is it fine to go ahead with the tune as planned? Just want to make sure I’m not missing out on anything important. Thanks!

Quick update on the upcoming Stage 1 update for those following along, and specifically in response to @SubTaco question:

After reviewing internally, we’ve decided to hold off on a public release of the updated files until we can finalize testing across all trim and drivetrain variations. While the update is ready for most configurations, we feel it would create unnecessary confusion or frustration if we rolled it out while still having to exclude specific setups. Releasing a complete and inclusive update will ultimately serve the community better.

To clarify: this update brings some refinements and improvements over the initial Stage 1 release—notably enabling full output in 1st gear on the Gas models. However, it’s not a critical or “recall-style” revision. There’s no issue with the current files, and you’re not missing out on anything that would prevent you from enjoying the tune today.

So, no need to delay your appointment. You’ll still get the full Stage 1 experience as originally intended. Once the new files are finalized and released, we’ll make sure everyone has access to them as appropriate. It's a free update for any prior Stage 0/1 client.

We’re sharing this information to keep everyone in the loop with our ongoing development efforts, and we appreciate your patience as we wrap up the final pieces.

Hope this clears things up!

Justin

Got the tune done last Saturday and proceeded to drive up to 5000 ft elevation the following Monday and can promise the tune is worth it.
Such a big difference in pulling power and doesn’t drop off at high rpm’s like the stock tune.

I have no performance based mods and I was always running 89 octane so I decided going forward to bump up to 91 to get the most out of the tune and to me is worth the extra $2-3 per tank for max performance.

If you’re on the fence, just do it.

What does it improve on a manual transmission?

@JustDSM any chance for a gear lock tune option in “S” mode?
Without custom code patching, that isn't possible. The "S" Mode shifting shares the same mapping as the current drive mode (Eco/Normal/Sport/Tow-Haul).

We could configure a GL setting for one of the alternate drive modes (similar to how we did with the 3rd Gen Tacoma and its ECT button).

What does it improve on a manual transmission?
At a high level, our calibration delivers a big jump in overall performance for the manual trucks:
  • Faster spool-up for improved low- and midrange response
  • Significant rev-hang reduction for a more connected driving feel between shifts
  • Sharper throttle response without being jerky
  • And roughly +30whp / +30wtq across the entire RPM range

For manuals specifically, our upcoming update (rolling out next week for all gas-only models) adds a few important changes:
  • Neutral rev limiter raised from 3,300 to 6,300 RPM
  • Main engine rev limiter raised to 6,300 to match the automatics, letting you use the full power band instead of being forced to short shift early
The result? You get the full output potential of the tune, smoother and more natural shifts, and a truck that feels far less “held back” compared to stock.

GL in sport mode or tow haul would be great

It can be done, on special request.

*The end user MUST understand they will lose the ability to leave it in "D" for the mode programmed with Gear Lock, requiring them to shift the gears while in "S" mode, manually.*

We get a large number of people requesting it, without fully understanding what it is, how it works, and its limitations, often leading to frustration of both parties.

Understandable. What happens when you come to a stop from, say 6th gear. Will you still be in 6th?

I had this planned but after seeing the prices, maybe in a couple years lol. I swear I seen $300ish on other posts. $900 CAD is pretty insane when all I'm looking for is to get rid of my Rev hang.
