Recall: 2024-2025 Tacoma TRD Off-Road models due to Bilstein Shocks Corrosion Issue (48k Units Affected)

The shocks were junk from the start. Eibach 2Rs have been much, much better.

Its a known fact most aftermarket shock absorbers are better than oem. They don't have to build at anywhere close to the same scale, nor for a restricting price point to supply a manufacturer.

I have to give credit where its due, I like the factory Bilsteins for what they are. Ride quality and handling are quite good. They may have a manufacturing flaw but a mass produced integral reservoir shock is a fairly new idea that hopefully gets ironed out spreads.

From a purely technological standpoint, the 2rs are actually a downgrade by not having a resi at all on the front.

Shocks Surplus basically echoes your sentiment. They might have better tech on paper, but it’s a temu version of their 8112 and isn’t tuned well at all in my opinion. They handle well on smooth roads but that’s about the most praise I can give them.

fully detached and nowhere to be found. March 2027 to get this fixed? I’m good.

I love my 5100s. Don't have all dogs, but have icon overland rear springs and they feel great! Alldogs sells theirs paired with 5100s so you'll probably be just fine.

I have a 2024 OR with 67k. The thing was terrifying to drive, I couldn't find parts; I was looking to trade it in. Thankfully this recall came around. I called Toyota because I couldn't wait until March of 2027, I'd wrap the thing around a telephone pole before then. They opened a case and set me up with an appointment at a dealer to get an inspection. I now have a loaner. The reservoirs on the passenger side front and rear are gone/fell off. Driver's side rear, the fluid has leaked out, but the reservoir is still attached. Apparently the driver's front is the only intact shock...on a pavement princess "Off Road" vehicle. No wonder it was a scary ride, just glad they're working with me.

Does that mean you and others here are shopping for a Honda Ridgeline or Nissan Frontier? Calculating recalls as percentage of units sold, they beat the Tacoma by a bit, and the Tacoma is still well or multiples ahead of GM, Stellantis and Ford. In all of that only 2/6 offer long beds.

Man I traded a 24 Ridgeline for my 25 TRD Offroad. That Ridgeline sucked. Boring, ugly, shit MPG, and was in the shop all the time for stupid shit like annoying rattles and electrical malfunctions.

Nope, I love my OR. I'm just collecting the recalls like trading cards because 1) I don't have any issues on my early '24 (other than the AC Chirp, which isn't a recall) and 2) I've seen too many posts here and throughout the internet of the atrocious work that the dealerships do, and I haven't been in a mood to be too mean lately.
