Stolen ‘24 Tacoma Solar Octane

Hi everyone, I hate to make this my first post but my 2024 Tacoma was stolen last night in Koreatown in Los Angeles.
I already did the police stuff, insurance, and contacted Toyota connect to see if they can track it for the cops. I’m making this post in the hopes that if anyone on here is local to the area they could keep their eyes open.

Unless they disable the DCM telematics module.

Right. I used to chase crooks for a living, and most are dumber than a post. Hopefully, these idiots fall into that category.

Sorry your truck was stolen, @Jayz.91 Any idea how they stole it? Fob repeater? Programmed new key to the ECU? Flatbed?

All I could tell from where it was parked was that they broke one of the windows, looked like maybe rear passenger side cause those were slightly tinted, or even the whole rear window.
I don’t think it was a fob repeater cause the range of my keys is very short for some reason and the truck was parked like a half block away. The most annoying part is that the parking space was tight as hell so I don’t think they got it out too easy unless they just yolo’d through the car in front of me.

As far as tracking it in the app, I only reactivated my subscription on Saturday and the QR code wasn’t generating for some reason so I never fully reactivated everything.

Tight parking spots aren't immune to wheel dollies such as the GoJak, but they can be a bit pricey.

Broken window and you being a long ways away suggests it was an OBD or CANbus attack.

Hopefully Toyota can locate the truck - they'll of course have access even though you hadn't completed reactivation.

Honestly...

File the insurance claim and consider the truck gone. It sucks, but that's likely the best outcome possible for you.

on the bright side, there's two TRD OR hybrid '24 Solar Octanes with about 10k miles for sale near you

get the insrance money and get one of those.

Glad you got it back.

I’d press your insurance company to pay for having the dealer clear all fobs from the ECU then reprogram your fobs.

Might be overkill, but it’d be worthwhile peace of mind IMHO

Do you see any cut / spliced / hanging wires? If so that points to a can bus attack.

Nothing hanging out, but the plastic trim next to the door sill was yanked off so whatever wiring harness runs along there was exposed.
Dunno if that means anything
