The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prevents dealers from voiding your warranty just for using a third-party cold air intake. They would have to prove it caused damage to the vehicle.

The worst-case scenario with an aftermarket intake is that it voids the warranty on the intake itself. It cannot void the warranty on parts downstream in the system, such as the engine, ECU, exhaust, and other related parts.

On the other hand, a tune can void both the ECU and powertrain warranty.

Of course an intake can. If you put an intake on your truck, and then your engine blows because it runs too lean, or overboosts, or particulates get through, you can bet that Toyota is going to deny that claim.

A tune can be worth the investment, especially when paired with the benefits of running an intake. However, tuning is only an option for people who are willing to risk voiding their warranty, since a tune leaves a footprint on the ECU even after being flashed back to stock.

In comparison, adding just an intake will not void the warranty and can easily be removed if needed without leaving any footprint behind.
The method that Cobb uses to flash the ecu leaves no evidence that the ecu was ever flashed. It does not add a flash count and can be returned to 100% stock.

A dealer cannot simply void a warranty just because an intake is installed. Toyota would first need to prove through a causal analysis that the intake was the root cause of the issue or failure.

I may get blasted on this, but here goes... Cam's test did not show an appreciable difference in power between the aftermarket CAI's and the stock intake. By appreciable, I mean can I feel or notice it in acceleration or responsiveness. I'm gonna leave sound out of it, because that is separate thing to me. I'm thinking about noticeable gains in power. Unless I am shown unbiased data from an expert (i.e. Cam), I'm under the impression that it may be cool to have all these intakes and such but my user experience with the truck is not going to change in terms of noticed power. Even the downpipe Cam did wasn't a big gain, it just smoothed out the power band. I have a Stillen exhaust, and they claim something north of 20 HP gain. All I can say is it's louder, but I didn't notice anything else. I was dreaming of doing all the intake stuff with my truck until I realized I probably won't even notice the difference other than in my checkbook

Its a necessary step in most turbocharged applications on the road to horsepower albeit a small one. Other than a tune or larger turbo, there isn't anything out there Ive seen so far that would be physically noticeable from the drivers seat. However, CAM and several other tuning companies showed a not insignificant and measurable gain on just an intake swap. But, they've shown an even larger gain when they are used in combination.

I.e. your not going to notice a 2% increase from the Ol' butt dyno from an intake swap. Nor would you notice that same increase from exhaust, boost tubes, intercooler, ect. But when you add them all together and suddenly there's a 15-20% increase, you'll definitely notice.

As far as sound goes, mabey I'm getting older in my 30s but I've been there and done that. Loud exhausts, mud hogs howling, big v8s just rattling your teeth loose at highway speeds. I've had both cars and trucks which required ear plugs just to tolerate long trips or feankly, just to hear yourself think. Given the option between HP and DB, I'm going HP every time.

Yup! I got blocked by Rob on his Facebook page cuz he doesn’t like anyone talking about other brands of it isn’t BANKS! What a shame!
Just reading the OP intro, that was my first thought as to who he was talking about. My guess was correct.

I ended up going with the SXTH intake and boost tubes. A big reason was the condescending attitude and ego from some of the Banks reps and affiliates. The way they responded to anyone with criticism or negative feedback about the product was a huge turnoff to me. It felt like the mentality was “our product or nothing.”

I’m glad I took the time to do my own research beforehand of both products and not follow the mass of just buying because someone else did. Huge shoutout and thanks to @CAMTuning as well for pointing me toward SXTH after seeing the dyno numbers and supporting data. The near neck to neck data of the intakes really shocked me.

At the end of the day, you're the consumer and we respect your decision. Thank you for the feedback.

If you're interested in feedback, it would be great if your social media collaborators dialed it back a bit. Seemingly every time someone suggests a power mod, Banks is mentioned even in situations where it makes no sense, like proposing someone forgo a tune in favour of your intake, boost tubes and throttle controller. I think this makes your brand look worse.

When my Banks intake comes in I'll see what my A** dyno tells me :). Compare Sxth to Banks. Has anybody run comparisons on the S&B Intake ?

Agreed 100%. No doubt they make a great product, I am not dismissing that. It just felt like a desperate attempt to push their product when it was not even asked for. Someone asked about a K&N intake in a group, and Banks came in and hijacked the thread, trash talked the product, and promoted theirs as superior.

Meanwhile, if someone asked about a Banks intake and posted an SXTH filter, that person would probably get banned lol. It just does not reflect well on the brand, and it is part of why I decided to go with SXTH. I do not want to support a company that acts this way.
