Yes, it just adds gain to the head unit, and I already have a Beatsonic installed. It does help the sound more than I expected, but definitely doesn't fix it. I think the real solution will be replacing everything from the head unit through the speakers.If you have the JBL system than the beatsonic amp won't do much. It acts as a preamplifier not an amplifier. So would do no more than turning the volume up.
It really needs a better amp and a DSP so you can tune the system correctly. There are several ways that the JBL electronics degrade the sound, including that removable speaker and the front door speakers. I think the JBL electronics is a bigger problem than the quality of the JBL speakers, although they probably need replaced also.
