I ordered the 18-gallon aluminum tank that this thread was about.
I have not yet received it so I can not comment on its good and bad points, BUT, although it goes where the spare now is, creating the problem of where to put the tire, it is the most logical and cost-effective solution for me.I will be happy to make a report after the thing is installed and I have put some miles on the truck with it..
Awesome, yes please provide a report once the install is complete. I will have the same problem with the spare tire if I proceed with the same solution, but that is better than worrying about having enough gas to make these long remote trips. Thanks again

I wonder why they went with an 18gal aux tank vs a 30+gal replacement tank? The "programmable Fuel transfer switch/fuel level gauge, quality fuel pump, and stainless steel fuel level sender" has to add cost and complexity over one big tank that (possibly) uses the original pump and fuel level sensor. Still like to see if the Tundra 32gal tank would fit.
I tried to chat with the folks at Long Range America yesterday at Overland Expo but they were slammed with people. I'll try and talk with them again today. I know they are working on something.

Carrying two 4 gallon rotopax on roof and 3 gallon on back of camper. Much cheaper option than alternatives I’ve seen.

I had a chat with the folks at LRA at Expo today. Here are the bullet points.
  • They have heard what people are asking for through the reservation site.
  • They are working on a factory replacement tank. It will be in the ~35 gallon range. Estimated release he said was 3 months.
  • They are also considering a spare tire replacement tank. Size unknown. Release date unknown.
  • They do install.

@Pappy Wow - a 35 gallon factory replacement tank would be awesome. Probably expensive as hell, but it would fix one of the 4th gen's biggest problems IMO.

Wow, a 35 gal replacement tank seems unlikely to me. I've spent a little time under my truck and while I do think a larger tank is easily plausible, but doubling the size seems extremely optimistic without doing a split tank.

It will be 33 gallons. The tank is in production, shipping mid September.

See the other post I updated.

This thread has gotten complicated.
Originally, it was about a Trailhunter-designed auxiliary tank. 18gal.
I do not think it is possible to place a 33 gal tank under the Trailhunter, so, What are we really talking about here?
Thanks a lot

It’s a replacement tank. I’ll be very interested to see what the shape of it turns out to be.

Curious why you think Trailhunter trim is different enough to prevent suitability?

TrailHunter and TRD Pro tanks are different.
Along with different mounting straps.
