I was at my local Toyota Dealer and seen a new 2025 Trailhunter (BLACK) in their showroom. It's been on their lot for 6 months.
Wondering why it not selling?
I thought the PRO & Trailhunter were hard to get?
I realize the "sticker shock" may be a factor?

They were 2 years ago when the hype trumped reality. The Trailhunter is just not very visually appealing. The Snorkel is noisy and ridiculous looking cruising through the Walmart parking lot and the bed rack thing is pretty polarizing and dysfunctional as well. The Bronze wheels...well you have to really like bronze.
The Pro looks much better but like you said their both way more expensive compared to a TRD off-road which is just as capable for 99 percent of sticky situations.

There's one up on my local marketplace for $58K with 5K miles. Idk if that's a good deal, but it's been sitting there for over a month.
@ridetime probably right about hype fade. Obviously different scale, but same reason you pretty much gotta give away those TRD off road wheels now (in my area anyways)

Another point to consider is that vehicles that are displayed on the showroom floor are specially prepared and as such are not readily sold by the dealer. I was on a tour of the Ford plant outside Detroit and witnessed vehicles with signs in the windows designating them as showroom vehicles...they got special treatment and pricing.

I waited six months to get my Trailhunter back in 2024. I wanted a Tacoma hybrid with a long bed, the Trailhunter was the choice. Probably overkill for my mission: Fly Fishing all over the PacNW. I have no regrets, love my truck.

IMO, it’s fugly. The number of “roll bars” I see for sale on OfferUp, marketplace, and even the forums are telling. I think the wheels are ugly. Plus, it’s probably priced high.

Couple of other possible buyer turn-offs I’ll toss out here:
Demographic of the most expensive trim(s) doesn’t fit the area.
If it is a 5 foot bed then the camping people may turn up their nose at it. If you are back and get a pic of the sticker or point me to a downloadable version I’ll give my 2c.
If its VIN is on the TSB for the transmission debris, that would scare me off.
Maybe it’s scratched.
That’s all I found down that rabbit hole.

I would assume you're talking about this one: Trailhunter.

Not terribly priced, but could still take more off. Might get a buyer as those tax returns hit lol

It’s price. Period. At 55 it would sell like hotcakes. I paid 48 for my 55k Msrp longbed, I’d gladly pay 7k more for hybrid trailhunter. I ended up making my own Pro Hunter.

Not too many will spend that much for a Tacoma.

And the silly snorkel...

I got my trail hunter in the middle of nowhere Alabama actually Sylacauga is in Talladega County but this dealership sells a lot of Tacoma‘s and other high-end Toyota trucks/land cruisers. My trail hunter was in their showroom for six months after they took receipt in June 2024. I was the first one to test drive it, but I already knew that I was going to buy it that December. This truck is for a certain buyer, it is not for the masses. Anybody can buy a cheap Tacoma and then build it up, but by the time you spend all that money to properly build it up, it cost more than a trailhunter. I know, because I priced it out. The lower end Tacoma‘s are for the masses and for who would want to build their trucks up for whatever or are satisfied with a cheaper truck. The trailhunter off the lot is trail ready. As for the rims: if you don’t like bronze, so what, I do. I have people asking me all the time if they can buy my beautiful bronze rims because they are very unique. They want to put them on their TRD Offroad. Go buy a trailhunter. As far as the roof rack and sport bar, those are minor details. I negotiated my price with Sylacauga. I didn’t have to pay for them. That’s why I gave them away.

It’s interesting that when the first Tacoma‘s of any trim package started coming out, people were bashing them in that they weren’t selling, and now they’re bashing specifically trailhunters, anybody look to see how many TRD pros are sitting around? Land cruisers? 6 GEN 4 runners in Trailhunter trim? All of this has to do with an individuals perspective if they are halfway up the mountain looking up or at the top of the mountain looking down. From my viewpoint, the only perspective that actually matters is what Toyota thinks. Ever heard of an Edsel?

For the uninformed, the snorkel is for water crossing, something a “limited” pavement princess literally could not survive

Well, not really, because it isn't sealed. Really more for street cred and MAYBE less dust intake.

You can pull your panties out of a wad. I was kidding.

But we all know that 99.9% of all vehicles, with snorkels, are never used for that purpose, just like most people never take their 4WD vehicles off road.
