I have been installing stereos as a side hobby for 25 years. I have won competitions. I am competent. I have to keep telling myself this stuff as I am in agony over trying to get this system to sound good.
I have a 2024 TRD sport premium with the JBL system. I figured I would start easy and get the trail grid pro alpine speaker set. Thinking it may be enough for me. Nope its a downgrade running off the stock JBL amp. The stock amplifier can't power the speakers adequately. 90% of the sound comes out of the center channel. And if I remove that the sound is just lacking over all. Have to crank it up to get acceptable volumes.
Step 2, PAC adapter and amplifier. Problems continue. At first the pac adapter had no output to the left channels. I reset it which fixed that issue.
For 15 minutes the system sounded great. The amplifier really woke up those alpine speakers. I turned the truck off happy. Go for a ride that night and everything is shit. The sound I heard before is gone, replaced by an echoey sound from the highs, and basically no sound from the lows. I had to crank up the gain on the midbass just to get something acceptable. I don't know what happened. Either the amplifier or the PAC adapter is bad or this truck is pulling some tricks to ruin this upgrade.
Step 3, Under seat subwoofer. Another fail. I bought the Alpine RS-W10D2. This should be about the best shallow mount subwoofer you can buy. I order an underseat box on ebay and install it. I can't even hear it. It is wired to 1ohm and receiving 700wrms but is inaudible. On top of this the seat is not usable. If I lower it, it will sit on top of the subwoofer causing instant damage.
I am now about 2k into this and am close to just reinstalling the factory system. I don't know what else to do. I ordered a replacement amplifier to test that. I also ordered the alpine type s 4" dash speakers to replace the crap ones that come from trail grid. I will probably have to return the PAC device and get a different one to eliminate that as the problem as well.
All in all. 3 out of 10, would not recommend.
