So, took my TH to dealer to have the Blind Spot Monitoring fix done and had them pull the ROB.. They showed me the printout.. Talked to the tech and told him that neither episode of Trans Overheating (which also trigger Limp mode once) was represented.. Even though I know the date and time and have a video recording of both.. They said they couldnt do anything about it if it wasnt happening there.. They suggested calling Toyota Customer Service as I would get quicker resolution.. They said to open a case, I would have to leave my trcuk with them for 1-2 weeks.. I said bull crap, let me know when a FST is scheduled to be here and I will bring truck and meet him and we can talk.. There is nothing the dealer can do in 2 weeks to try to cause the Trans Overheating.. The fact that the 2 instances didnt even show up on the ROB is disturbing..
Any suggestions on what to say or do to escalate this to Toyota Corp and their engineers?

Try another dealer. You'll see my post on a previous page. I had to take it to three dealers before I found one that created a TAS case with Toyota based off what they found in the ROB. They never had to see it actually happen.

Problem is that the 2 indicents that I recording the warning on screen and truck went into limp mode did not show up on ROB.. Bigger Toyota problem..

The first dealer I went to didn't find it in the ROB either. I have no idea why one found it and the other one didn't. Either way yes, it's a bigger Toyota problem.

Do you have print outs of both ROB inquiries? That would help show that something is wrong with their software..

So I see two possibilities. Either the ROBs are not consistently stored and reported, or some dealers see them and just lie. My money is on the second one, but unless we had a way to access ROBs I don't know how we would ever know.

Yep - that is a problem Toyota. Are you listening? Do you care?

Just took the 4Runner up a mountain on a narrow, paved road and the tranny temps started going up again so I put it in S mode (S2) which helped though it still got a little warm. I was going around 15- 20 mph (it was a narrow winding mountain road, so I wanted to avoid any head-on collisions). Part of it turned to gravel/dirt and I kept in S mode rather than putting it in 4L (which it certainly didn't need). Long story short, I don't feel like I need to be doing all this shift changing with every change in grade or I would have gotten a manual which they don't make anymore. Most embarrassing part of all this was when I pulled over to let the tranny cool down before I switched over to S mode a new Bronco went by me up the mountain with two little old ladies in it and a Mazda crossover was chilling at the top of the mountain.

Toyota needs to listen and fix this problem. Crazy we can't drive a vehicle designed for off road without having a Transmission overheating issue

I climbed approximately 2,000ft on a rocky road (not towing) in mostly 2WD with some 4HI at very low speeds…5-10mph. The trans temp definitely climbed near redline but every time I thought it’d cross into the red, it dipped down in temp.

This has been my experience whether I’m towing or not…have yet to have it go into limp mode.

Are you under warranty still?

I understand if you wouldn't do this cuz it's a pain in the ass dealing with some of these dealerships but if you are able to bring your Tacoma into the dealer and have them check the ROB and report the overheating instance as an official TAS case to Toyota, that would help Toyota realize I'm not the only one with this issue and that they should do something about it.
