Anybody else have an issue with the heat, my truck has 1800 miles and whenever I need to use the heat the thing takes forever to warm up. I have to actually drive it for 10-15 minutes for any hot air to come out, letting it warm up in the driveway doesn't do much, and I've got cold air blasting at me while its 30, 20, 10 degrees out. Anyone else have this issue? For reference I've owned over 40 cars and never experienced this before - it goes way beyond letting it warm up in the driveway for 10-20 minutes before driving it just is blowing cold air until i've been actually driving it for a bit.

Mine rocks. It has been single digits here for over 3 weeks. I remote start from the app and in ten min when I get it the seats are warm, steering wheel hot and hot air blasting. Maybe another 3-5 minutes of driving and she is at interior operating temp.

I find my heat to be adequate but it does feel a bit slow to get there and the fan speeds feel super slow. It's like for the first 5-10 minutes the temp is only mildly warm and then it finishes warming up over the next 5 minutes and gets melt-your-face-hot. Sort of odd. I also find that having the AC enabled really cools down the heater air temps quite a bit. Being that I have manual AC I have to control that myself whereas on my third gen I had auto climate and it always defaulted to AC on, which I was perfectly fine with, but that truck's heat felt much warmer with the AC on than my new truck.

These trucks do have a PTC electric heater that is supposed to kick in and provide mild heat so that you get some warmth started before the engine warms up. You may have something wrong with that if the heat is not getting warm at all idling.

Just curious, are you watching the temp gauge as you judge the heater temp? I find that once my gauge reaches the halfway/4th bar (SR/SR5 cluster), that's when my heat finally starts to ramp up good, but sometimes it's still even a few minutes after that before it really gets warm.

All that to say I feel like mine is better off than yours but it isn't very impressive and it seems objectively worse than my third gen is. But still, it is for sure eventually warm enough that I dial back the heat because it gets uncomfortable 5-10 minutes into the drive.

It was -40 last week where I live and using the remote start to let it warm up for 15 minutes had it warmed up enough to defrost the windshield but it did take a few minutes of driving to get it completely warm but I would consider that normal at that temp. Personally I find the heat works great. Truck currently has 4400 miles(6800km). Definitely heats up better than my old Civic and even my Sierra work Truck I got rid of.

First off, tiny engine, gonna take a while to heat up

Also maybe someone with a parts diagram can check and see if these trucks have PTC heaters like the 3G and many other Toyota vehicles.

These are small ceramic (think indoor space heater) heaters that heat up the interior before the engine gets warm.

It has a PTC heater, powered by two relays.

Good to know! Thanks for providing the diagram.

Then crank that heat to the max and it'll probably solve all this whining about the heat :cwl:

If it's anything like the 3G, you need the heat to be maxed out and engine running for it to work.

I don't have too many complaints, and it's hard to do a direct comparison with my 3G since it has auto and does all the heavy lifting for me. Manual climate totally depends on me being competent. I would say on a cold day of 20 degrees, if I put the fan speed on max and turn the heat all the way, I am probably comfortable in 4 minutes and uncomfortably hot in 8 minutes. But I haven't really given it tons of seat time evaluation either. Again, it also seems to vary drastically whether the AC is on or not. I tend to have it on for humidity control. The heat definitely seems drastically neutered with AC is on.

The 3rd gen I was good in about 2 minutes of driving. By that point the PTC heater was already doing it's thing and the engine was starting to output heat. The 4th gen seems to be slower for the heater to respond with engine heat (despite the engine actually being warmed up by the same amount). If anything, that is what my complaint would be. For example, if I'm halfway warmed up on the 4G, it seems to be less warm than halfway warmed up on my 3G. I think that is where any of my confusion and complaints come from. Overall I'm fine with mine though. It kinda sounds like OP has a problem, or maybe there is a small chance the usage of the controls isn't quite right.

Mine warms up faster than our 2022 Highlander, no complaints. Then again the lowest temps I've had to deal with were in the upper 20s. Nothing like you guys to the east.

When I set my temp to heat, it seems like my face vents don't blow out much (almost like they are blocked). However, if I set the setting to Feet AND Face, I get the same, if not more airflow, thru the face vents (I would assume it would be less thru the face since its face and feet).

I have the exact same truck & found that trying to set the heat manually sucks, but using the auto climate control works great. I just hit the auto button on the driver's side of the HVAC controls, wind it up to whatever temp I want, or "HI" if it's really cold, & it starts pumping out heat in a matter of minutes.

Not that I have much to offer since I live in Phoenix, and I know your probably gonna laugh at me but when I drive my truck in say 50-60 degree weather I want heat @ around 73. When turning the heat on I get cold air for a while, maybe 5-10 minutes before it finally, and slightly warms up.

I found that the seat heater does well at getting me warm. That said I have had it in much colder temps, and it did well. I found that I also drive a bit before turning the heat on. Again probably not much help here, but the system seems adequate or what I would expect in cold temps once the engine is fully up to temp.

I have auto climate control. The truck will not start blowing air until the truck temp moves about an 1/8 of an inch. Once it starts it takes very little time to get very hot. Of course the colder it is outside it will take longer. It’s been less than 20° F lately and it does great!
