Toyota Recalls Certain Model Year 2024-2025 Tacoma Vehicles​

PLANO, Texas (Aug. 6, 2026) — Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain MY2024-2025 Tacoma TRD Offroad vehicles. Approximately 48,000 vehicles are involved in the recall for the U.S.​

Over time, corrosion can build up and cause the oil reservoir on the shock absorbers in the subject vehicles to detach. If the reservoir detaches while driving, it can create a road hazard, potentially increasing the risk of a crash or injury to another road user.​

​

All known owners of the subject vehicles will be notified to return their vehicle to a Toyota dealer. For all involved vehicles, the dealer will inspect the front and rear shock absorber assemblies and will replace the affected shock absorber assemblies with improved ones, at no cost.​

For all involved vehicles, Toyota will notify customers by early October 2026.​

This looks to be the same issue the Ford Bronco had with its Bilstein shocks as well. Corrosion will cause the piggyback reservoir to detach. Usually Bilstein makes pretty good shocks but I guess you can't win them all. I live in sunny SoCal so I'm not worried but I guess it'll be nice to get a shock refresh after a few years of driving.

Well that would explain the backorder issue another user was having. They may have stopped production temporarily to fix the issue.

Thanks for this notice. When I went to Toyota.com/recall the only recall on my '25 was the axle shafts. It didn't break my heart that the shock recall was not listed for my truck. I plan on replacing them with something else anyways.

I got my truck in July 2024. It is on the recall list. It says the remedy will be ready in March 2027. I was planning/dreaming of upgrading my suspension as well. I'm gonna have to think about this now.

My plan is to wait until my shocks blow out, get them replaced for free, then take them off and replace them with 6112's and sell the brand new set from Toyota.

My buddie's '24 OR had a leaking rear shock. But it was early on in ownership. I wouldn't think corrosion would have had anything to do with it. Either way, it was replaced under warranty.

Coming from someone who works in manufacturing, doubtful. Its a constant game of people coming up with excuses for their own incompetency. Likely it was an engineering mistake caused by morons who sit in an office all day and base everything off of math rather than real world experience.

It was less about the value of the parts and more about the fact that you interjected yourself into this thread JUST to show off your King suspension.

Aren’t you the same guy that was grubbing for money to go on a mission trip? Not a good look to keep flexing your truck with 30k in upgrades after that whole debacle lol.

"Remedy
Toyota is currently preparing the remedy, at this time, Toyota estimates the remedy can be available March 2027. When the remedy is available Toyota dealers will inspect the front and rear shock absorber assemblies and replace the affected assemblies with new ones, FREE OF CHARGE."

Worth noting that they only say that they'll replace the affected assemblies in the remedy they posted on their website so it won't be an all around exchange for new shocks unless the current ones are actually deemed defective.

Just saw the date too. Hopefully that means it's not SUPER urgent but that's definitely concerning!
