Is there a way to keep the ICE engine on all the time and the hybrid kick in only when you need extra power. I hate it when driving in traffic and every time you stop the engine cuts off.
Coldtaco is right, turning on tow/haul will keep the ICE engine running, and you can also keep the ICE engine running if you move the gear selector to "S". Note: If you choose to use the gear selector in S option, you'll also want to move the gear selector forward and hold it there until it shows you're in 8th gear on the instrument cluster screen in order to avoid being stuck in whatever gear you were in before you moved the gear selector to S.
Sounds like you shouldn't have bought a hybrid. why are you obsessed about something it's designed for, and because of the hybrid motor, has a zero lag take off to resume?
Tow/Haul forces it to stay on but also forces other systems and settings to different presets that you might equally not like.
The very reason we did not get a Hybrid. Auto start stop is a deal breaker unless you can eliminate it without having to push the button every time you get it. On our Jeep's there was a company that built a OBD module you plug in and it would keep it disabled. I just checked and they have nothing for Toyota.
There are Auto Start/Stop eliminators that you can buy that are wired in to stop it from cutting off. Now sure how they interface with a hybrid though.
It's not even an auto start/stop like the non-hybrids. The electric motor can propel the truck without the gas engine on. Auto start/stop systems need to turn the engine on to start moving again so there is some lag. The hybrid system is more immediate especially the power from the electric motor. don't confuse the two
