Howdy,

For those curious, weighed our 2025 TH short bed over the weekend. Wanted to get a baseline weight before we started serious modifications. Changing from stock tires to Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT is probably the greatest weight gain. Changed rock rails, gained 6 lbs total. Full tank and unloaded (empty truck, no driver).

GVWR: 6,835 lb
Load capacity: 1,215 lbs / reduced: ~174 lbs / 1,041 lbs

Total weight: 5,680 lb
Steer axle: 3,120 lb
Drive axle: 2,560 lb

Basically 55%/45% front/rear distribution.

Thought it may be of use for folks.

Cheers!

Fuel tank level?

Driver in the vehicle? If so, driver weight?

Any stuff stored in the vehicle? Or completely empty?

Had meant to include that. I've updated the OP. GVWR is 6,835 lb

Empty truck, full tank, no driver.

The load capacity reduction (added to OP) includes the yellow sticker reduction, + 6 lbs for Westcott Des. rails, and +14 lb/tire compared to original tire weight.

CAT Scales accuracy tolerance is ±20 lb per pad, or 0.1% of applied load, whichever is greater, so I'm not too worried about whatever's floating in glove box and center console. Each axle on a separate platform, so potential of ±40 lb tolerance.

Good enough for my purposes.

The morale of the story<g>, is that after essentials are loaded (me, my wife, our dog, and 2 dry bags) for a weekend trip, there's not much left for bumper, winch, bed rack, fridge, supplies...and more...and gas. We all know, we're gonna have to carry more gas with us than we previously have had to with Riddick's predecessor<g>.

I already knew it before purchase. Underscores why upgrading springs and brakes will be a requirement for safety/comfort as we evolve our build. The drive for this weighing was to give us a baseline before the heavy stuff starts being introduced.

Does.. it move?
Ha! Yep... it still moves. I just finished a Continental Divide expedition that started at the Canadian border in Montana and ended at the Mexican border in New Mexico. We crossed 12 mountain passes and traveled just shy of 6,400 miles... it still moves ;)

You should speak up in the transmission failure threads because these guys are doing something wrong if yours is fine with all that weight. 😂

It's the same part number as any other 4G.

Rather interesting!

I take my 2024 OR 5' with the only mods being a rolling locking aluminum bedcover, Trumgeta bed liner, and AMP BedXtender when going to the recycling yard every few months. Their scale has me at 5150 lbs. with me and a full tank of gas, I'm 235 lbs so the vehicle wet weight with the mods would be 4915, which is in range of tech specs curb weight with those addons and a tank of gas. Scale cal and readout is +- 10 lbs, the last cal on the scale shows being between the two times I've gone with this truck and the "empty" has been the same.

I wonder where all your extra mass is - the tires wouldn't be THAT much!

Have a good one!

I was just curious what my 25' SR5 4x4 SB weighed, because I want to buy a small travel trailer, so I pulled into a closed weigh station on I84 just east of Portland and with ~ 3/4 of a tank of gas and nobody in the truck it showed 4600 on the scale.

Interesting question. Out of the gate I'm thinking chase rack (whatever that thing is back there), 2" taller, larger wheels/tires, compressor,...got me curious enough to go digging.

Looking at Toyota’s specs page, your 2024 TRD Off-Road 8AT shows a curb weight of 4,630 lb, while the Trailhunter comes in at 5,360 lb. So right from the factory, Toyota says the TH is about 730 lb heavier.
(For context, its GVWR is 595 lb higher too.)

So what’s hiding inside that extra mass? A few things jump out:
  • Hybrid powertrain: +~325 lb
  • ARB steel bumpers, full-length steel skids, frame reinforcements: +~175 lb
  • Old Man Emu suspension, 18" wheels (vs 17), larger tires: +~100 lb
  • Tire swap (Mickey Thompsons): +~30 lb
That gets us to roughly 630 of the 730 lb difference.

Add in another ~30 lb for the ARB sport rack, ~30 lb for the onboard air compressor and wiring, and we’re right around 690 lb. The remaining 40 lb or so is probably the “everything else” bucket — wiring looms, switches, brackets, shields, and other Trailhunter-specific bits.

All told, that lines up almost perfectly with Toyota’s published delta.

Makes me think of Stitch, our Wrangler, fully kitted out for a multi-week overland trip. Stock, about 4,400 lbs. Full build, 5,400. Loaded (me, wife, dog, camp gear, etc.) 6400 lbs. After 3 weeks like that, I get home, unload, and it feels like sport jeep for a day or two :).
