It would have to be driven to the new location, if it was towed, the vehicle location won't update.

Unless they chop it for parts, they'll clone a fob, and I assume the location would update.

This thread is such a bummer for @ArnoldN. I really hope you find out who did this. If you can't get your truck back, hopefully the insurance company will help make you whole again. It's still super terrible but hopefully you come out of this positively on the other end.

True, I am wrong on it being towed. Maybe they have a way of defeating the Toyota GPS when they get in with the cloned fob.

Crazy that people will go to these lengths to steal an insured vehicle with a small parts market. If Toyota fixed their security loophole, I'm confident 4Gs would not be a high priority target. I think its just any modern Toyota that is getting stolen, regardless of the model.

Anyone know if the digital key on your phone’s Toyota App can be relay attacked or cloned as easily as these fobs?

God I hope not - I would think it's secure/encrypted

figured I’d post on here incase anyone sees any sweet deals on my parts or for some reason spots my truck(highly doubt). I had it stolen from my apartment here in Houston TX.
I had
Cali raised- sliders, ditch light brackets, bed rack, and bed stiffeners
Rigid Dutch light pods
King 2.5 front and back, with swaybar links
Icon coil springs
Icon billet UCAs
RRW- RG6 wheels and beadlock rings
Rago fab rear shock skids
Toyota trailhunter front skid and diff skid plates

Very sorry to hear about this happening. Hope you somehow get your truck back and that those responsible are appropriately punished. It’s sad how far backwards things seem to be trending in terms of the general public’s accepting/tolerating criminal behavior——really hope things work out for you in whatever is the best way possible. …In lieu of a faraday pouch I disable the key fob when parking for the night. I guess that thieves can't highjack the signal between the fob and truck then.

To disable the key fob on a Toyota Tacoma for battery saving or security, press and hold the lock button on the fob and then press the unlock button twice. The red light on the fob will flash four times, confirming it is now in sleep mode and not transmitting a signal. To re-enable the fob, simply press any button on it.

I also have a AirTag on all my rigs (when I got burned it made me think a little different about security)

The fobs are the vulnerability here. Put em in sleep mode, into faraday bags and into a metal safe until you have a trip that’ll take you far from home.

Bring back key ignition. My GFs mom got a 25 Corolla Cross L and it's got a key ignition. I liked that

Ironic that my WRX is probably less likely to be stolen than the truck simply because the key is chipped and has to be near a sensor in the ignition AND turn the barrel.
