Not very happy with Toyota right now. Yesterday I had a first service scheduled with Toyota and they informed me there was a software update for a recall related to the blind spot monitoring system. I approved them to apply the fix. When I returned to pick up my truck, about an hour later I was driving home after running errands and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with check engine notifications, a “drive start control malfunction” and all sorts of other notices. I immediately returned to Toyota and they have had my truck since yesterday afternoon. As of an hour ago they still cant figure out what’s going on and have a master tech on it.

I received a phone call informing me of the progress and the tech went on to say that they would continue to work on it but at some point they may have to start charging me diagnosing fees and shit despite the thing working FINE before I brought it in. His reasoning was the digital Wolfbox rear view camera that I have had in the truck since I bought it last October, insinuating that the aftermarket mirror could be why. I laughed at him and told him that was ridiculous and reminded him there was absolutely nothing wrong with the truck prior to the recall service. Further, another tech told me when I dropped the truck off that the recall service provided may have been done incorrectly and something about a plug needing to be undone prior to doing the service? Right now they’re saying the MAIN fault is related to the sensors at the grill but theyre having problems communicating with the system.

Has anyone faced this issue? I did raise a bit of hell and got a service manager who told me that tech that I spoke with poorly communicated with me what was happening and that they will take care of this but I am a bit alarmed that they cannot find out what is going on.

Good luck with getting it all fixed. I have mine tomorrow. I hope they don't fork it up.
I hate when dealerships don't own up to their mistakes. The last time I took my truck in, I got it back and saw a disconnected wiring harness dangling out from the bottom of my dash, beneath the steering wheel. It's amazing how poor factory service can be.

I keep putting of my trailer blind spot update, and now I know why. I hate how dealers jump on any excuse to push the blame/repair costs onto owners. It isn't hard to see why hardly anyone trusts dealership service these days.
