Yeah, I've seen your posts. I had a Gladiator Rubicon, but tired of the shitty mpg and dual batteries. The aux battery is a pain to change and left me on the highway two times.
I will keep an eye out for you around town. We get some of the local guys together and run the arroyos every now and then. There's a great group of overland guys over at ih8mud that @Pappy introduced to me. They get together regularly for coffee and breakfast.

What’s up everyone!! Been stalking this forum for a hot min now and have never taken the time to post. Love scrolling thru and looking at all the different 4th gen Taco builds!
Anyhow here’s my 24 SR (wannabe TRDPRO) since having it for lil over a yr now I’ve done all sorts of different mods! Level kit, heritage grill, Lexland front bumper, wrap on roof, tint, Rough country hood scoop, fender flares, running boards, rear fender liners, hard roll up bed cover plus others an lots of small mods to interior
Next major change will be finally getting my rear bumper installed, as well as Bilstein 5100 front struts w/ Alldogs OR springs, & Superpro UCAs have the Bilstein struts on 3rd clip settin so w/the springs should get bout 3-3.5” lift up front. Already installed Bilstein rear shocks it gave rear just shy of 1/2” lift. Will lift the rear another 1” with Alcan springs shackles. Hoping to get everything installed this weekend. πŸ€™πŸΌ cheers πŸ€™πŸΌ

Idk how your doin for scratch, but I would absolutely love to see this truck get some power mods and get another member with a pro to do a head to head. Being an Sr and not even an SR5 it would be hilarious if this thing managed to outperform a pro at half the cost.

That would be amazing, and 100% doable. It's just like in Subaru when the guys get a base model and make it faster than the STi.

I bit the bullet, even at 6’4” I can’t easily get into the bed when I need to, neither can my old man, so I finally bought the SXTH element relocation bracket and the cheapest Amazon step and it turned out great, I saw others having figment issues and it really kept me from pulling the trigger sooner especially since this bracket after tax and shipping was $180 but very satisfied

Yeah, whomever designed that adapter is a genius. My dealer has entered an agreement with SXTH to provide it at the parts counter.

@Will721
Well I do have plans on soon ordering a CIA just unsure which one, leaning towards Stillen or AFE mainly because both offer the scoop which I would imagine helps with more air flow. After the CIA I plan on doing OTT tune which was told by @JustDSM the SR trim usually gains 70/80hp-tq from the stage 1 tune. Also looking at going with AFE charge pipes and rock basher exhaust. All the above mods should easily add 100+hp! Planning on ordering all above parts with in next month or so as well having tune done. Look forward to seeing how much of difference it’s going make πŸ€™πŸ»πŸ’ͺ🏻

Yesterday the wife and I went on an adventure in Carrizo Plain National Monument. We spent a few hours on steep hardpack/sand/gravel, rutted roads. We went uphill, downhill, switchbacks, a few places at the edge of sheer drop-offs. That was a first for us both. We were on the Trailhunter’s stock wheels, tires and suspension setup.

She decided I’d do all the driving…gulp…we had to back down around one of the scarier sections because another couple was heading down the switchback ahead of us. Had to snug over near the edge of death to make room for them to pass, thank goodness it was a 2nd gen Tacoma. We chatted a few minutes about how they love their simple old manual truck. He advised us that we could make the rest of the way over the mountain range - the Temblor Mtns - since we made it as far as we had. Whew!

Thanks to many of you on this forum, I knew to use 2LO and S mode to avoid overheating the auto trans. We were in 2nd gear since that sounded smoothest to us, between 4 to 8 mph. On the terror-invoking rutted narrow steep as fuck downhill, I said, DAC crawl control, you’re hired. It did a beautiful job doing work I was too nervous to do. Wife watched out in camera views while I peered over the hood and steered, proclaiming my love and that we are going to live, LOL!

I was scared of overheating the brakes so trusted the nannybots to know better than me. I paid attention to how the system applied braking so I could learn from those expensive bots.

We thought we were going a tamer route, but ended up on almost as challenging a mountain. But I did not use crawl control on that one. We thought it seemed much colder so went back around the first mountain to find a campsite.

Through all this, the transmission stayed cool. We had a truckload of camping gear but not heavy stuff…truck tent and lightweight mattress, blankets, mostly small gear, the dog, and 3/4 tank of gas. We had previously adjusted tire pressure to 19 psi. That had smoothed out the washboard and ruts on the flats on the way in, before we found ourselves heading uphill on a shortcut to a piece of BLM land with the pretty yellow, purple, and orange flowers. We camped on BLM land near Soda Lake area’s Selby Campground, a tent-only remote campground that mostly attracted backpackers and nature photographers. It was 34Β° at the coldest. Truck camping was fun! Most unique Valentine’s Day so far in 20 years.

We mapped ourselves home this morning on relatively tame washboard and aired up when we got to Carissa Highway, which took us to CA-33 and home to Ventura.

The cats barely had time to miss us.
