Hi John,

Thank you to you and the team for making such easy to use and install wiring harness kits. For the SR-L Rigid light kits, I saw post #118 on page 8 from you in this thread:

Rigid SR-L DIY thread

There are a few posts following where one user describes wiring his rigids into the trailer pin harness for brake light functionality but the subject falls off deeper in the thread. Is it possible you folks would consider developing wire harness(es) that would allow the rigids to function in tandem with the tail lights?

As in - the red halos would be on as running lights when the tail lights are on, the red halos get brighter* when pressing the brakes, the red halos flash brighter* with their respective tail light when the blinker is on or hazards are on, and the bright white spotlights turn on when in reverse.

*not sure if it is even possible for the red halos in these lights to act as running lights and flash brighter like the tail lights do when brakes or blinkers are on

I have the simple option harness currently that just plugs into the driver tail light so the rigids function as extra running lights and reverse lights. I would love it and would not mind going through and re-wiring if the rigids could be turned into extra tail lights. I cannot say for others, but in my case, no need the added functionality to trigger them from the switches in the cab.

I am thinking it would work like the C1R hitch light pod from Diode dynamics but without the flashing function when pressing the brakes. I understand theirs one plugs into the tow wire harness and is a single light so not exactly the same, but just as an example of the requested functionality.

Yes mine is a 2025. I’m guessing only the 2025+ will have this type of harness? Or does hybrid have anything to do with it? In any case. Thanks for detailed explanation! I’m going to research more and find out if my hood strut. I install would affect the installation of your ditch light brackets.

I really appreciate what you guys have put together but, man it is really difficult to follow and understand all of the options. I have read and reread your post a few times and the website links, but still unsure of what options I need.

I would like to use the lights in my non-ARB rear bumper. I have a 24 with the premium package. I’ve used the under hood aux switch connectors, 10a only, to power my grill mounted light bar.

I didn’t receive a 2nd wire harness package so not sure if I have a connection under the bed.

Anyway, I’ll study some more.

In an effort to simplify things, you’ve found a way to make it more confusing.

I highly recommend SPV for their harnesses and how they carry the full array of lights. I bought my Rigid Reverse Lights and DD Ditch Lights from them with the aforementioned harnesses and made installation easy and clean. Just email or call them on what you are looking to do and they will get you what you need once you figure out what kind of beam pattern you are wanting.

Has anyone figured out how to wire their ditch lights into the High Beam switch? I haven't been able to find anything concrete on what works on our trucks.

Easy except screwing in the light on the passenger side!!! I love mine. I cannot believe how useful they are for reverse.

So this question comes up a LOT...

It is a yes and no answer unfortunately.

We do make adapters that do just that. Brake, Turn, Running, Flashers and Reverse.

The issue of having it available for the Toyota isn't the harness availability. Its the lights themselves.

Rigid SRL lights are a 3 wire light. Power for the white light, power for the red light and ground.
There is no bright or dim feature for the red lights with the SRL. That would require a 4th wire. For low power red and high power red.

If you tried to "tie" the brake lights and turn signals (Same wire on the Toyota Tail lights which are 4 wires) together with the running/tail light power. (Aside from needing diodes blocking backflow to each other) What you would get is when the headlights/tail lights were on, and you pushed the brakes. Nothing would happen. Nothing would change. The red light is on. It can't get brighter. Its already on.
The same for turn signals. If you turned on turn signals when the tail lights were powered.... they would NOT flash. Because the red light already has constant power.

Think of it like this.

If you had a lamp in your house on a table and it had 2 power cords twisted together both leading to the lamp and you plugged both in. The lamp would turn on. If you unplugged ONE.. the lamp would still stay on...

So because there is only one circuit. You have to CHOOSE. Running lights OR Brakes/Turns.

In that scenario, we chose to offer them with the running lights because that would be most preferred. Also simpler for most to just plug in.

Here is a video on the Diode Dynamics C1R Lights which DO have 2 stage Red and 4 wires. There is also a C2R light (Rectangular).
We did develop this sort of kit for those.
However, the point of the SRL lights is there is a specific pocket to fit them. So other lights just wont fit.

I do like the light pattern on the SRL lights as well the best.

If someone has a Tacoma that does not have the ARB bumper and wants to mount the Diode ones under it. Or they have a non ARB bumper and want to CUT A HOLE to insert the flush mount versions of the Diode lights. Then that may be an option.

Here is the video which is what you were asking about... (But not with the SRL lights)

You can also email us directly at info @spvparts.com

So what I think you are saying is you have the under hood pig tail for the Aux switches with the bare wires.
You didnt get the other version that has the 2 wires that lead to the 2 pin connector to patch through to the rear connection? Correct?

So that would make sense.
I don't believe the non ARB bumper models have the wires pre-run through the truck to the back. They have the switches up front, but you would need to run the cable to the rear.
Thats quite simple. You can feed the long harness through the frame to the rear.

So that kit is a different one. It has the SRL lights, but not the flush mount ones. These go under the bumper with the added brackets.

(If you want to CUT HOLES in your bumper, you can get the flush mount kit. This one is BOLT ON though)

So if you want it to go to your Aux switches, you can get the option "Full Rear Harness". If you want BOTH Reverse trigger AND Aux switches, get that one..

Feel free to reach out though for more assistance if this doesn't make sense.

I'm sorry you feel that way.. but I am always more than happy to help.

In short, while it may seem more confusing at first. The key is to make it easier. It is easier to plug something in than to manually cut and splice wires. So the key is to make things plug n play and have less chance for complications like corrosion and or fires.

I think most of the time, while it may seem complex. Once you understand the basic foundation of things. It will all click all the time.

Its sort of like the fist time you got a smart phone. It was all Greek.
Once you understood the basic premise. All the apps and functions worked the same, so it becomes second nature.

Here is a diagram of various ways to plug in all the different configurations. This is a general diagram. The only difference with the Tacoma specific one is the plug to the built in connector in the bumper which is similar to conf #5

I hope this helps a little.

Ooooh, I like that. I had a non ARB bumper and I’m happy to cut it, or mount underneath.

Calling tomorrow to discuss.

Thanks

John, thanks for the explanation. If I am able to find a pair of lights with the required wires that looks nice, and figure out a good way to mount it to the ARB bumper, I'll be sure to hit you folks up for a wiring harness solution.

I’m very satisfied with my setup. This kit made it much easier to install the bumper lights.
