Agreed. I also installed the icon reinforcement kit. My TRD OR bottoms out over speed bumps at 15mph my 20 year old Lexus sedan can blow over at 30mph. I really like my truck overall, but I’m pretty disappointed in the front suspension on the off-road.
Bottoming out at 15 is no bueno. But I’ve never trusted those thin looking billsteins on the OR

If I had an OR I would probably be looking to upgrade the shocks and fix several problems at once.

It's why I'm not doing a leveling kit. I'd much rather replace all of the suspension than waste money on something I ultimately should throw in the garbage anyways. Frankly, it puts a sour taste in my mouth for anything from bilstein.

I wonder if it’s Billstein or toyota being cheap - either way not acceptable

Yeah - good plan. It is a surprise to me that an Off Road is not really ready to go, you know, off road. It has put bilstein in a bad light, just like the JBL "premium" sound system has downgraded my opinion of JBL, which I used to really respect.

Almost 8 weeks since my top hat broke and truck is still at the dealer with no ETA for new parts. Parts manager says he suspects Toyota is working on a fix instead of replacing the part with another I'll probabably destroy again but he doesn't really know. If so, could be many more months? BUT after 5 weeks they got me into a base moxel 4x4 RAM 1500 which has been a great truck so all good with the wait. 5.7 HEMI gives almost the same mileage as my hybrid Tacoma and rides way smoother on highway although offroading is limited by cheap tires..

But thanks Toyota Canada for paying for me to have a truck! Quality move.

Moral of the story: baby your OR truck offroad until you replace the shocks unless you want to risk months without your truck!

They are not bottoming out. It’s sounds like it but it’s the valving in the shocks that make the noise. Either way I also was disappointed with them! They have been replaced.

Many people have been just fine off road. Sucks you’re in this situation but plenty of others are without issue. Keep us posted though, definitely interesting they’ve kept it so long. I was not a fan of the stock shocks but they seem to be wearing in nice. We’ll see. Wouldn’t mind upgrading to some QS3s even though it’d be equivalent to lighting money on fire given how often I off road.

Given the depth of this thread, fear was a decent motivator for me to order the Icon solution. I had a few qualms Toyota might not have covered a repair as has happened to others, but I was honestly more concerned with the possibility of being without the truck for an extended period of time waiting on parts. $75 was worth the investment to keep me on the road but I'm miffed I had to spend the money at all. Is the current design intentionally sacrificial?

As for the install, it took a bit of time but the process was easy. For the passenger side, with an extension you can get at the engine-side nuts easily from above; lots of clearance. A speed wrench made getting the nuts off really quick but a deep well socket was necessary to put everything back together. I think the torque spec is 33ft lbs but getting a torque wrench in there is tight.

It's pothole season here now so I'm glad I installed this bit of insurance.

Hopefully you're not in canada. I just got mine back 2 days ago after over 2 months sitting at the dealer waiting for the part to come in. And to make it worse, I was driving up a forest service road with an empty truck today and my transmission overheated.. Back to the shop it will go. This truck sucks.

Also, my dealer told me that if I installed the icon plates that it will void my warranty. So instead, I will wait to break the top hats again...
